Hello,

I am a new user and have never read this website nor the forum before today; i'm sorry if this isn't the correct use of the forum. I did not play video games much at all in the past it was not allowed at my boarding school. My parents do not approve of video games but they say I am old enough to make my own choices now.

My five year old Niece who is educated at home - she will be six this year - has just gave me a 3DS. My Aunt bought her one of the newer larger models and my Niece is a darling and gifted it to e as I have been baby sitting her. I've played some games with her such as "Animal Crossing" and "Rayman".

I like puzzles and strategy in real life "IRL"; The girls in my living quarters often watch Anime after hours so I've become a fan of Anime but it has to have a good story and or art style either or but both is preferred. So regarding genres I was thinking of buying some jRPGs Fire Emblem/Bravery series aa well as maybe some Professor Layton titles (are they worth the cost?). Finally I've done some reading and watching on YouTube so I'm familiar with some things but not all however I like the look of "point & click" games/novels.

Anything that is kid friendly is a bonus but she is quite aware of blood just no sex or curse words. Guilty pleasure I like Animal Crossing a lot...

I would be buying my games digitally as I have no time for game disks or boxes nor any love for them. I just want to know is Nintendo the right "team" to pick for this sort of thing I am looking for? I am not bias for one computer console over another I just like to keep it neat. I don't have a PC I have a iPad and a Macbook Pro we do have an iMac at home but it's a shared computer. So should I do with the N team? If so can you suggest anymore games please?

Merci x

The 3DS family has a great selection of RPGs and anime style games. in addition to fire emblem and bravely default you mentioned (which already have sequels), you got games like fantasy life, tales of the abyss and etrian oddisey.
honestly, the 3DS is like paradise for those who want RPGs and anime style games. and to answer your last question, I highly suggest tales of the abyss and fantasy life- which will probably suit you since you enjoy animal crossing =]

In terms of kid-friendly games for your niece: Cooking Mama Bon Appetit, New Style Boutique (aka Fashion Forward), Yokai Watch and Pokemon X/Y all seem like great options.

I have come to appreciate nintendo games very much - so much that I got right of x360 with all its games and havent regretted it. Nintendo games are generally very lighthearted and colorful and there is a lot of games out there that are just super fun. I havent really been playing a lot of games, though, its mostly Mario Kart 8 for me - my backlog has been growing constantly.
Based on your post I get the feeling that nintendo games will be just right for you - I wouldnt see any reason to recommend any other consoles to you.

As far as games are concerned you should download some demos of games from the eshop - I downloaded bravely default and decided not to buy it. On the other hand, I always thought the etrian games wouldnt be to my liking - the other day I downloaded the millenium girl demo and was impressed - have bought both untold games and consider purchasing etrian IV.

I played the first layton game and while I think its definitely a good game (a puzzle/detective game mixIMHO) I sort of lost interested somewhere in the middle (will definitely get back to it lateron).
