Topic: Importing Pal N3DS from Aus questions

Was thinking of perhaps importing an Australian PAL N3DS. Not sure whether to wait for it to release in the UK or not. Does anyone know whether an AUS model is exactly the same as the EU model? I'm thinking that I wouldn't want the console to not be able to connect to spotpass stuff for the EU region. Games will be fine, but it's the online stuff that concerns me such as special miis (if they ever release any again!, AC content etc). When I had a US console, it connected to US stuff only (understandably). Being PAL though is an AUS console able to connect to all the EU spotpass stuff? And would a system transfer from my UK 3DS still be viable?

Yes, it will. Since region codes for EU and AUS are identical, you're essentially getting the official EU version ahead of its EU release.

Is this really the case of the same regions ? Does the Eshop work on it for example and system transfer, is it compatible if so I'm ordering mine now.

I'm assuming it is the same console. If you look at the region setting options, Australia is there along with all EU countries. However, I'm hoping someone who has an Australian 3ds now can confirm that the eshop works in the UK on an Aus console. Please?

You wouldn't get a warranty from Nintendo, so there's that to be aware of too.

Nintendo hardware failing, maybe. I had 3 ds lites break on me before. But it is a great product and I'm willing to take a gamble if the system is transferable.

If you get an AUS Nintendo 3DS you will only be able to connect to the region you set your console in through your settings. Therefore, if you set your region/location to Australia you would only be able to access the Australian eShop in which all prices are in AUD. You would be restricted to Australian-only content (which sometimes includes New Zealand too, but I'm not too sure). However, if you are able to set the console's region to somewhere in the UK you would be able to access the features I just mentioned, but in that particular location. And lastly, as mentioned before by others Europe and Australia do have the same region coding, PAL which means games with those region coding will work on any console with the same region coding. But be aware that if you are planning to purchase prepaid cards like Nintendo eShop cards you can only use Australian ones (if your location is set to Australia that is) as with eShop cards, they are COUNTRY-RESTRICTED due to different currencies and difference in pricing. So by setting your location to the UK your console and eShop will work with the £ currency.

For me, having bought my 3DS in the US, I was able to set my region to Canada since after all, both countries are in North America and have a region coding of NTSC-U. So, I am able to only access the Canadian eShop but it works out for the better because if you convert CAD/USD to my local currency, AUD/NZD, they are a lot cheaper. Though I am currently living in New Zealand (a PAL country right next to Australia), I am still able to connect my console to the Internet and use the eShop freely.

Hope this helps!

Cheers, Saveline! After looking at the region settings, I sort of came to the same conclusion, but really good to have it confirmed by someone else. Went ahead and purchased! Will cost more in the end with postage and customs, but I simply don't care!

No problem! Oh and I forgot. If you're planning to do any sort of system transfers between Nintendo 3DS consoles, be warned as consoles with different region settings CANNOT transfer with each other (as in NTSC contents will not be allowed to be transferred to a PAL console). Good luck with the rest!
