Keep in mind, the American English dialect commonly uses French and Spanish words too

In magazines and the like, using English works like bolding and setting the font size to 172: It stands out. But no, English is most definately not a big language in Japan. And as LZ said: think about words like "cafe," - English is filled with words that aren't english at all.
