I don't think its premature. There are quite a few exciting releases coming over the next few months. The arrival of Super Mario Land 3D and Mario Kart 7 establishes a solid basis going into Christmas with the likes of Kid Icarus, Resident Evil, Luigi's Mansion and Paper Mario to come. Third party support is still a concern and if the 3DS is going to succeed it is vital Nintendo persuades more third parties to publish their games on the 3DS.
I feel like the drought is over too. In the next few months, we've got, of course, 3D Land and Kart coming, but we also have Sonic Generations, Cave Story, etc. There's plenty enough retail games on the immediate horizon, not to mention the downloadables, to keep most 3DS owners busy for months.
Super Mario 3D Land Cave Story 3D Ace Combat: assault horizon Legacy Nano Assault Shonbi Sonic Generations Mario Kart 7 Doctor Lantrec Rhythm thief and the emperor's treasure Tales of the abyss 3D Resident Evil Revelations Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D Luigi's Mansion Kid Icarus Uprising
What Drought.
I see nothing announced for march and beyond but I have ME3 that month and more should be announced.
And of course, the reason I haven't heard half of those means the drought is over?

Honestly, what are people wanting? If there are 5 games released at the same time that you want, even if you have the funds for such a purchase, it takes time to play each and you can't play 5 games at once and live a somewhat balanced life. The launch period for the 3DS was somewhat light on games, but it had some good ones such as OoT and Starfox. A drought for one gamer may not be for another, and I find all this talk completely pointless and arbitrary.
I bought 5 games practically one after the other once I had my 3DS and to be honest I wish I hadnt now. A lot of games in one go needs a lot of cash and then you dont give them all the attention they need to be enjoyed properly. Thanks to the "drought" we have had I have been able to go back and spend more time with them and now I understand the need for a steady trickle of releases rather than a flood of titles. The next few months looks like a nice steady flow and Nintendo holding back on titles may end up being a good stratergy.
On a side note, the Ambassadors for whom the drought would have affected the most, would not have felt it as much if they would have started releasing the GBA games by now.

Let's get something clear; this 'drought breaker' of a lineup of games still only appeals to a niche audience.
...So Mario games are considered to have a niche audience? I understand you not liking a platform because it doesn't have the types of games you want, but last I checked a Mario platformer and Mario Kart didn't just appeal to that one specific type of video game player. If I'm remembering my statistics correctly, Mario Kart DS sold over 20 million copies. I see it as safe to say that 20 million doesn't fall under "Niche".

Games I want too play. There's four right now, on the horizon for the 3DS - Fire Emblem and Chocobo Racing, Love Plus and Dynasty Warriors.
Three don't have firm release dates. One will have to join Tales as a game I have to import, as the chances of it coming to Australia are small.
The PS Vita, meanwhile? Well, it's... Not the same problem.

First, that desire is completely understandable.
Second, the Vita isn't to be released until 2012, so I don't see it's relevance.
And finally, this "niche audience" that two first party games included in this "drought breaker" lineup appeal to is the largest "niche audience" I've ever seen. Mario Kart Wii has sold 28 million copies. New Super Mario Bros. Wii has sold 22 million copies. That's a damn big niche.
I should have said 'limited.' Aside from the out-and-out Nintendo games, then 3DS has precious little going for it. This is a problem still. One that Mario and Mario Kart aren't actually going to fix.

Well Love Plus isn't ever coming as it would be deemed to creepy for america. But on all the other points I agree expect the Vita stuff.
The only people who would claim Love Plus is creepy are the ones who haven't played it. Unfortunately because people in the west like to judge games before the have played them, you are precisely right. Love Plus won't get a western release thanks to sheer ignorance.

We could get a Fan translation like the DS game is getting.

Enlighten us, or me, please. Because as far as I can tell it is a virtual girlfriend, made for socially-awkward Japanese men.
There's an MMO game called Red Light. It's basically a sexual game where you virtually have sex. Now then- I don't need to play the game to know what it entails. If you do enough research and things line up, you can come to a conclusion on what the game is about.
No one is judging Love Plus by it's title or cover.
Would I get love plus? Nope. Not interested and I rather invest time looking for real love than something virtual. Then again, I'm not searching for Love so I don't care.
People judged Nintendogs and said "Why would you get a game like that when it isn't the real deal?" Partly true, but for those who can't have a dog for reasons such as allergies and living conditions, it's perfect. Love Plus? Either you just like messing and having fun with the game, or you're lonely and cannot get a partner and resort to a virtual person. If that's all you, cool.
I would assume Waltz just likes playing around... Assume.
It's almost Winter time (which means games coming out for Christmas, too!) How can there be a drought?! It's snowing for christ sakes

Just like Call of Duty is made for people that want to buy a gun and go on a rampage, made for psychopaths?
Oh right, games don't have an impact on people's minds when its violence involved, but if there's sex involved, then OH MY GOD WHAT A LOSER.
And Love Plus isn't even about sex. It's an interactive novel/ simulator game. It's just like that EA game, surviving high school, but, you know, good. This isn't a hentai game; this is tame by dating game standards - which is why it is so popular in Japan; it's no more for losers than Call of Duty is.
Oh, and just to clarify something; I'm happily married. I'm amaazed I need to make that clarification, but there you go.
