Your thoughts? Is the drought really over? Has Nintendo done enough to salvage this (imho) highly underrated system?

I'm just not sure yet. For one thing, after Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7, we don't have a lot of confirmed release dates, not to mention the fact that there aren't a whole lot of third-party titles announced for next year yet. I think these two first-party games are a start, but calling the drought over might be a stretch.
I'll say this, there are some great 3DS eShop titles headed to the system over the coming months, so perhaps they'll help even more. But only time will tell if the drought is truly over.

I agree, Corbs. I also think this system is still highly underrated (and also highly under-developed!) When I first turned on my 3DS I was as awestruck by the 3D as I still am today. I just think a lot of the 3DS retail boxed games available don't fully utilize the 3D (or harness its true magic!) the way that it should be. (Can I mention SIMS 3? COUGH!!!) I think Nintendo failed in that department, as well as the not allowing the Virtual Console 3DS games to be released in color, or updated, somehow. A lot of people are still pissed that they paid upwards of $300 for a system just to play old games on it. I'm a retro gamer and I actually love the older games, but it would be nice to see a great new huge slew of upcoming titles! I just purchased Tetris: Axis recently and LOVE it!!! And Super Mario 3D Land is coming soon and that will be HUGE for the system. I think by the end of the year the system will have a nice set of great titles to choose from, but it still needs just a few more. Nintendo really needs to up its ante on 3DSWare, too. Pyramids was an amazing title (IMHO!) and it truly captures what could be great about the e-shop on 3DS. Just my 2 cents (or 4 cents by now, lol)

I'm quite convinced it's over. Cave Story 3D, Super Mario 3D Land and Tales of the Abyss now in November. Mario Kart 7 in December and Resident Evil Revelations set for Januari next year.
Along with Luigis Mansion 2, Kid Icarus Uprising, Paper Mario all set for early 2012.
I just hope they can keep that going for the rest of 2012.
Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again

The problem is that releasing two first-party games that really should have been on the console within the first 3 months of launch doesn't solve the problem of the 3DS having very little good games to play. True, the sales will (most likely) boost developer confidence in the machine, which in-and-of-itself will lead to more games being made for the system, but right now we really won't have anything else to play. However, I'm happy that were are getting something with original content and does appear to be of a great quality.
EDIT: Also; thank you for putting "IGN Article" before the actual article title. I've been to several forums where people desperately try to get attention by stating the article's opinion as the thread's title.

Releasing one party racing game and one platformer doesn't fix the 3DS' problems.

It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad

And can you go a little faster?!
Sucks if you like, you know, Strategy and RPG games right now.

Is Tales of the Abyss being released in Australia?
It's out on the 25th here, sandwiched right between Mario and Mario Kart. It's too bad we aren't getting Devil Survivor it fills both of these niches!

What Drought.
I see nothing announced for march and beyond but I have ME3 that month and more should be announced.

No prob, that drives me nuts when they don't mention it's an article at the outset, too.
I think we have a great gaming system that could benefit with a few more outstanding titles to play on it. If Nintendo would make a flip note studio for 3DS (as they've promised, where is it??) and upped the ante on the 3DSware titles (not 3di titles) we would be in good shape. Our 10 other GBA titles are coming soon, too, for ambassadors.

I have an idea for us to combat the drought! We can all join forces and make a game for the 3DS. We would first find a publisher to secure our funding, and then we can all think of crazy gameplay ideas. Then, if we all contribute, we'll be bound to create the most awesomest game EVER! Okay I don't mean it, but it would've been cool to try out
I'm making the most of Star Fox 64, so... And I have my eyes on Sonic Generations, the two Mario's and will look to get DoA and Shinmegami which are two games I could not get on their release dates.
But the "drought" isn't over till the flow of games begin which probably won't be till next year.
It's going to bother me to know that AC3DS is complete but Nintendo is holding it's release. Same goes for Luigi's Mansion 2, which is apparently done but Nintendo held back it's release so it's not crowded and cannabilize their other games. I read it from a blog yesterday I found on Twitter (I cant link to it because I'm using my cellphone now).
