Topic: If you bought a 3DS and are hoping for games NOT in 3D, you got your wish.

We'll this isn't really news.. I mean they stated that the 3D was just an option just like the mic, touchscreen or camera. Cubic Ninja was a game that was announced pretty early on and that game skipped the 3D as a whole.

Alright, then. Maybe they should start calling it the, "Nintendo (Sometimes 3D) 3DS", or the "3½DS". That's really pointless and disappointing. I mean, I know lots of people never use the 3D, but on the other hand there are people who do I like it (like me). It really is kind of depressing for Nintendo to say that, even though 3D seems the main feature of the system (since it's obviously in the name). But, they made the system, they can do what they want with it, I guess...

Basically, if a game makes extensive use of the system's motion control features, it probably shouldn't be in 3D. Cubic Ninja and Pac-Man Tilt are two examples of games that were made with no 3D capability.

Nintendo's philosophy is to try to give developers as many tools as possible to work with, then choose the tools that fit the game. The 3D will be a feature of most games, but not all.

They aren't just saying no 3d. They are saying if a company doesn't want to use the 3d they don't have to. He wants them to also focus on other parts of the console like gyro scope. That's why nintendo may not use 3d on certain games. Because a) they may not need it and b) to focus on other 3ds features. He doesn't want companies to just use 3d like companies just used wii for waggle.

Well in this case it doesnt matter what you think is true. Fact is what I said is true and if you spent two minutes on Google you would see it.

Guys let's be for real for real here. Vita >>>>>>3DS. If they aren't gonna make games in 3D might as well just get a Vita it's gonna roxorz! 3DS doesn't have new CoD!!!!!

@Apollo: Not all DS games used the touch screen. Not all Wii games used the motion controls. They're doing just fine. Not all games on the 3DS absolutely need 3D. End of story.

You know, I heard Nintendo made some DS games that didn't use the touch screen. What the heck? I bought my DS for the touch screen. If a game didn't use it, it automatically sucked and I refused to play it.

Ended up getting a PSP, and had the same problem. Why the heck didn't all of the games use the nub? It's maddening, I tell you.

That's why I have a Wii. Only buy the games with shotty motion controls. Totally pwnin in Halo wii!

I think it's one more point leaning in the "3DS is getting shelved as soon as I get a Vita" column. I got the 3DS because gaming in 3D seemed awesome. I intend only to play it with 3D on, barring showing someone else a game/them looking on my screen for a few minutes. Virtual console games and the like I understand--but if I'm paying 40 bucks (........) for a 3DS game, it should be in 3D.

It's called the 3DS.

Not saying every game needs to use every feature (not every Wii game features balance board, Wii Motion Plus, and Wii Speak functionality) but hell--it's THE feature. Without 3D it's just a Gamecube with less buttons and a sloppy control stick...which wouldn't be an issue if there wasn't a PS3 with an unchanged amount of buttons and an infinitely more capable (conjecture) control stick right around the corner.

This makes me happy. 3D is just a gimmick that adds nothing to the gameplay. No sense every developer wasting their time on it with every game they put out.

Nintendo or most any 3rd party will most likely only not use the 3D is the game is heavily tilt-oriented. Just look at Cubic Ninja, if you play with gyroscope it doesn't display in 3D. Pac-Man Tilt from Pac-Man and Galaga Dimensions doesn't support 3D at all because of the tilting. I can't imagine any developer not making their 3DS game 3D just because. If someone don't want it in 3D, there is a switch right there for you. It would make zero sense to cut 3D for no reason.
