Topic: If we own a retail version of a 3DS game, can we get the digital copy for free?

Seriously, with Nintendo releasing all these cool retail games digitally, I have to wonder what I will do if I own the retail cartridges. Will I get the DLs for free?

Now, before you start pelting me in the face with "But the titles haven't been released yet!" and "There's no way way we can prove that now!" I have something to say: New Super Mario Bros. 2. It exists in both retail and digital.

That would be too easy, major potential profit loss, and you can't do vice-versa.

They're considered different versions; retail and digital. No way would you be able to get the digital versions free.

When in the ND did they make a retail Mario Kart a download?

Nintendo said that they would bring out a way for you to transfer your safe data. That's the most they would do for us. Better than nothing, at least we can trade the game for credit. For now it's only confirmed for Japan.

Not a chance. One could simply get the DL version and sell the physical one.

From what I know, they only related thing they announced was the future ability to send the Save Files from a retail game to a download version of the same.
But I haven't watched the Japanese ND anyways.

My friend told me that they do that when I mentioned the 3DS being able to do this, IDK if it was his way of saying OMG NINTENDOS BEHIND or he was lying to make it seem like Nintendo was behind

Well I have a PSP and it can't.
I have an xBox 360 too, and it can't either.... Well, you can install your games on the hd but you still need the disk.

Ok then I guess he was just lying to make it seem like Nintendos further behind then they really are, I hate when people do that...

The only game company that is going to do this in the future is Sony, and even then it's not exactly the same game; you get one for PS3, one for Vita. Since the Vita version is presumably going to be cheaper, and is the one you can't sell, it'd be an annoying hassle to actually make a slightly better deal by just keeping it on Vita and selling the one for the PS3.

Cant velieve the price of star fox 64 u can pick it up in the shops for £15
They really need to sort there pricing out I would love to have all those games downloaded and on the fly but I just cannot justify the prices
But yeah to get to the topic in discussion would love to be able to download it if u have already bought it but sadly it will never happen.
Unless they could find away of locking out the cart version inu download it I guess

Who cares? If you wanna bring the game with you, just bring it with you. Or you can download it and save yourself a minuscule amount of pocket space. I don't see why you need both.
