Ok I know that Super Mario 3D Land came out very recently. But mind if we change the subject for a little bit? It is pretty obvious how excellent the Mario Galaxy games are, however, it was developed SPECIFICALLY for the Wii. If there is a Galaxy game in development, most likely, it will be developed for the Wii U. But have you ever thought of bringing those masterpiece galaxies with you when you leave home? Like a Super Mario Galaxy 3. Only portable. Should navigating be in only 3D, side scrolling 2D, or a mix of both? What about the Star Cursor? How will that work out? Or maybe you just want a brand new Mario main series game. These ideas might sound crazy, but who knows? Tell me your ideas.
If they make another Galaxy (and I sincerely hope they don't), it better be for 3DS, because if it was on the Wii U it would seem even more "been there, done that" than it would just for existing.
Same here. No more Mario Galaxy games. Galaxy 2 was a great game but didn't make the same impact on me that the first Galaxy game did. Lately there has been a lot of focus on the remaking of games or borrowing ideas from previous ones and while that's fine , I think Nintendo's been playing it too safe since Galaxy one in regard to Mario Games. Mario 3D Land is a great game but leans too much on previous Mario games, especially SMB 3. I want Nintendo to do what they do best, and that is to step out of the box and give us something we have never experienced before.
Galaxy on the Wii U wouldn't just be 'been there, done that'. Remember we have the U tablet now, so even if it's only a minor change in gameplay, we'd see a change. Plus, I'd love to see Lumas in HD.
But anyway, I'd rather we have a new original series.
I don't see a new (or old, for that matter) SMG coming to the 3DS. Iirc, the reason the levels in SM3DL were fairly short was because of the game being on a handheld and the shorter play sessions that handhelds tend to cater to, so having the Galaxy games's large worlds would be fairly counterintuitive to the handheld experience Nintendo tends to create on handhelds. Also, I'll echo the sentiments of many people here and say that I'd like Nintendo to do something different as opposed to rehashing a familiar theme.

Part of what made Galaxy so great was its huge scope. The 3DS can't handle that due to it having such a small screen when compared to a TV. I even think this was mentioned in one of those Iwata Asks things. Personally, I'd much prefer playing a game like Galaxy on a TV.
Best thread ever

Well since Super Mario 3D Land takes many elements from the Mario Galaxy games (graphics engine, sound effects, music, overall feel), I highly doubt we will see a true Galaxy game on the 3DS.
Super Mario 3D Land is basically Mario Galaxy without the gravity effects.
