we've had this argument before, and no one ever agrees, so let's get back to the original topic, shall we? do you want to see a 2D Zelda platformer or not, yes or no.

Yes, actually. As long as the difficulty isn't all over the place like Zelda 2, I'd be glad for another. It'a one of the reasons I'm looking forward to "ATHIKWYSOG?".

Just read the announcement thing, so my post will be on topic: no. It might work, kinda like Zelda 2, but I think it should be more of an open world game. Zelda just doesn't seem like the 2D game, besides its roots, let alone a platformer, though it might work. I'd rather see it go in more of a big, open environment direction w/ lots of choices.

okay forget it then anyways... i dont want 2 see a 2d zelda platformer because.... its just not Tloz.... i doesn't really work as good and spin-offs can be annoying at times/ also they can ruin the core game entirely.... Developers have 2 be carefull with spin offs.... they have a dark side........

Link's Crossbow Training.

Oh yeah. I forgot that existed as well.

Well, if they only one is a tech-demo/minigame, there isn't much need to be worried, now is there?

Pretty sure Four Swords counts as a spin-off.

Does it? From what I just checked it seems to disagree.

Nintendo doesn't want Link to speak as they would rather the player impart their own personality into the character.

He's been speaking since Zelda 2. ("I found a mirror under the table.") Then, just about every Zelda game since, you are given the option of choosing what Link says in response to certain people. Why do people think that Link is a mute?

The only way that would work is to go down the Western RPG route and make a Skyrim-style silent protagonist with conversation trees and the like. Not only would that not suit the whimsical setting of Zelda games, but Japanese developers have no clue how to make western-style games, and I'd rather Nintendo not butcher the Zelda franchise trying.

Wow. That is far from "the only way that would work." I think this is why Nintendo has considered letting Retro do a Zelda game. To make it more like a western RPG. Although I fear it would only make Zelda nothing more than the average western RPG, as they're all so very similar.

All this debate about what an "RPG" is. This is the whole problem with genres in the first place. A game can't just be it's own thing. It has be assigned a label. Why? I mean, typically when we say "RPG" we all know what we mean: a game where you get experience points and level up your character(s). But, obviously, it's a very broad term. Nintendo themselves labelled Ocarina of Time as an RPG when it came out. It's all just a matter of opinion as to what games fall under what genres. There's no point in arguing over it.

Those however are somewhat sucessful Zelda spin offs. After all 4 swords did get a free 3ds/dsi update... in my eyes their not annoying/ or evil

well not to start a fight but think about it,the portable four swords had no temples just levels, your main objective was to earn money, there was little story line.Other then this and links crossbow training, the tingel games were spin offs.
