Topic: I have a big decision...

My 3DS no longer allows DS or DSiWare games access to NWC. This is due to something being erased internally on the system when I sent it for repairs a while back. The NWC ID has been permanently reset to nothingness and can never be recovered short of a system format (which is totally out if the question). My only option (maybe) is going out and getting a new 3DS and doing a system transfer. I think this would fix my problem because the 3DS says that virtually everything is copied...except the system settings. The DS wifi setup falls under the system settings so I think this will fix my problem...However I'm not 100 percent sure. If anyone else has tried a system transfer and knows for sure whether or not the DS WFC ID is transferred, please let me know....or I'm gonna have no choice but to go get a new system...

That's a pretty big decision you got there...

Tell Nintendo?

I spent a while on the phone with them. They say system format is the only way to fix the issue (again, not happening). I suggested my idea of a system transfer and the girl agreed that it sounded plausible but she didn't know for sure. I think this is the kind of thing where I need to seek someone out who has personally gone through a system transfer.

So Nintendo is basically telling you to buy a new console because of something they did that ruined your current one? :/

If you're going to get a new system and start over in the end anyway, why not just start over on your current 3DS?

They never said to go buy a new one, that is my own plan. They said that formatting is the only option. I'm a bit peeved at Nintendo though because I sent the system for scratch marks and wrote a letter with it explicitly saying to not fiddle with ANY internal stuff. I even said I would prefer if the system wasn't even turned on in their care. Needless to say, they didn't really listen and now here we are. It wouldn't be all bad since it would be sort of nice to start fresh (and with a new color) but its not exactly a small amount of money.

It wouldn't be starting over. a 3DS system transfer transfers virtually everything. StreetPass, photos, save data, eShop data, activity log, play coins, miis, EVERYTHING....except apparently the system settings which is what gives me hope that this may be a solution.

If you format your system, you won't lose access to your games. You'll have to redownload them from the eShop, but they'll still be there for you. You'll lose any photos and friend codes you had input, of course, but you're looking to replace it anyway, so you already had that problem.

If you buy another system, transfer the stuff and sell the broken one. You won't lose that much money considering.

So... you're going to buy a whole new console... because you don't wanna lose your activity log or play coins... Well, good for you I guess.

@Bboy: It sounds like Nintendo is screwing with you if you ask me. Sell your 3DS, and buy a Vita instead.

What I'll lose is nore than that. I'll lose all my StreetPass data, DSiWare saves, 3DSWare saves, VC saves, Activity log data (this is actually pretty important to me...), and my Mii data. I just can't bring myself to do that.

I know I'm coming off as difficult but I certainly can't do that. I just couldn't let go of my original 3DS. It isn't broken...its just....flawed. Plus, I never sell my consoles. I collect this stuff so it would just become another piece.

Knux: Lol, no. That's even less of an option than formatting

So the only problem is DS and DSiWare games don't play online anymore? If you still have a DS that solves one problem. As for DSiWare, is there really anything worth playing online?

But that is really unfortunate that they didn't listen to your request. Why would they mess with the system's inner workings when they just needed to fix some scratches? As you said, they didn't even need to turn the system on.

Yes, I have a DS (several actually) but (and again, I know I'm difficult) I like doing everything on my one, current gen system. I don't like playing on old hardware if I don't have to. Plus, I have a hankering for Tetris Party Live (the thing that alerted me to this mess).

To each his own. I actually don't like playing old games on new hardware. If I'm playing an older game (in this case, a DS game) I would prefer to play it on the hardware it came out on.

Yeah, I agree with Oddy. Let them know how angry this makes you . Be a pest if you have to. Nintendo is very good about making their customers happy.
