I'm the kinda Ninty fan that buys on day one. The excitement is always too much and I must have, immediately. For 3DS, I got to try it before it was released, on that 3DS tour thing. On that day I realised its awesomeness, but also realised it wasnt really worth what they were asking. I mean, I bought the Wii on launch day, for less, and with a better launch line up. And the DS Lite was half the price. Crazy.
I shall wait till more games are out, and hope that a price drop appears even though I know it won't.
"I'll wait a year" this and "I'm waiting for the upgrade" that. I wanted my 3DS on release for the joy of seeing everything in 3D! I couldn't wait to get my hands on it the moment it was announced! I dunno, maybe I'm just being a mindless consumer sheep, but I don't understand the lot of you.
Its not that I cant wait its just that I cant afford the steep price that Nintendo is wanting for something that costs them 5 bucks to make. I have other priorities like rent, utilities, gas, car insurence and food before that need to be taken care of before hand. I cant just go running to someone like my parents and have them buy one for me.
I understand people have other priorities and more important things to spend their money on.
What I DON'T understand is people who DO have the money for it, but are willing to wait until an upgrade comes out in a year or so. That just boggles my mind. But then again, I'm probably just an impatient person is all.
Getting a Nintendo Console on day one should always be a tradition, or at least around that time! Any later than a month and you're pushing it hehe. Personally I couldn't wait either, I'd go nuts and feel like I'm completely missing out.
getting a nintendo console (or any console for that matter) isn't always good to do because the 1st ps3's had an overheating problem and actually set some houses on fire, and like the 3DS the "Black Screen of Death" oooohhh yeah it doesn't ruin you're system it just makes you reset it but still i'd much rather wait(even though i have to anyways) and have a system that works perfectly right away.

Err...Yeah.....well I said I was gonna wait till Ocarina. Yeah that didn't last long! I went and tried one out yesterday...WOW...loved it..so I bought one with PWR. Ha ha. It is a bit pricey but I'm happy with all the stuff thats already built in, I keep finding little things.Aw man its so cool , my daughter loves the camera mode!! So long losers.
I'll get one no earlier then this holiday (And even then, it may take even longer), once all the basic functionality is there and when we get a decent library of games.
My Dad is helping me organize the 3DS trades from Amazon (I'm trading my blue DSi and five games), and I have enough money, but my Dad isn't happy about it. Man, am I tired of hearing "All for one system and one game," and "maybe you can trade all your clothes, too." I really want to convince him that this is a good idea, but he isn't cracking. Should I proceed with the operation or bail and wait until Christmas? Help!

Well, i would never trade a game for another game, so i would never EVER consider trading 5 games and a console for another newer console and a game... But that's just me.

That's way too confrontational and is undoubtedly seen by your dad as proof that you are still a kid.
@labrat - Make a case that it's what you want to do with your money--maybe give him some insight on what the 3DS is, how it differs from the DS, and why you feel its value is equal to that of the DS and 5 games. Show him that this isn't a careless impulse buy and that you've put some thought into it--I think that's what he wants to hear...telling him he's violating your human rights or anything along those lines will simply reinforce his feelings that you're buying into commercial hype and don't understand the inherent value of your belongings. I'd guess that's his central concern.
Make a little presentation out of it. Sit down with him, take him to the Nintendo website, and show him all the awesome stuff the 3DS can do. You'd be surprised how his viewpoint might change...but don't be pushy or argue. Ultimately, you live in his house, on his dollar, and by his rules.... Accepting this limitation also demonstrates maturity--pulling at the leash simply makes them buy a stronger one.
