i was wondering. i meen Rare did goldeneye without a second joystick using the 4 camera buttons on the top right hand corner of the N64 controler. but the 3DS does not have a setup like that. and the d-pad is in an akward position bellow the circle pad. and i would think that the a,b,x,y buttons would be pretty vital to gameplay on a fps. so how do you think the control setup would be on a call of duty game for the 3DS?

Same as a Call of Duty game for DS, hopefully.
Righties; move with the d-pad or circle pad, fire with L, aim with the touch-screen, various functions on the touch-screen (including double-tapping), and maybe an optional quick-key on R (can be reached with the pinky while using stylus, or the index finger when using the thumb-strap).

Alternatively, aim with gyroscopes by moving the system (like in Face Raiders, or Steel Diver's periscope mode).

Alternatively, aim with face buttons, and have a row of functions on the left side of the touch screen in easy reach of your thumb.

Alternatively, analog is used for aiming, face-buttons for moving, touch-screen for other functions.

Same as any of the FPS on the DS (using the touch screen), but with the joystick instead of a dpad.

In a single word, awkwardly. It will be slightly better with gyroscopic and camera/face tracking especially if someone steps forward to create a middleware for fps games on 3DS, but still likely awkward in comparison to a 2nd analog.

What is the meaning of life? That's so easy, the answer is TETRIS.

it seems like every nintendo consul has required an awkward control skeem for an FPS. that is except for the wii in my opinion

I think the FPS controls will work okay, if the setup is similar to Metroid Prime Hunters. However, that setup causes discomfort in lengthy play sessions. The 3DS would've been much better if it had dual analog sliders. As a result, I think the FPS genre will work for 3DS, but the PSP2 will be the ideal handheld for that genre.

Hopefully the gyroscope will be an option.

We'll just have to wait for MW3, considering it's probably gonna be on the 3DS. I really hope Nintendo makes a Metroid Prime for the 3DS.

dont get me wrong. i like call of duty but at this point it feels like activision is releasing the same game over and over again. but i think metriod prime 3DS would be amazing. hoping that it wont stick to the i spy aspect of other m

Well if you fire with an MG as an soldier for long times it surely SHOULD hurt your arms !

Hmm seriously the metroid hunters control scheme will be perfectly MUCH more convenient than the awkward 2 analog stick control scheme ...

cheers

analogue+touchscreen controls could get very annoying to lefties, but im not into fps that much anyway, so unless a metroid prime comes on it it probably wont
but the single analogue in general will get annoying because of that, on the DS pretty much every game that used the stylus a lot had a leftie option swapping the D-pad controls with the 4 buttons, which wont really work with the slider pad, i may have to practice the stylus in my right hand

gyroscopic controls could work well though, but only if the 3D wasnt used too heavily

that does not really bother me even thought i am a lefty. i mean im a conservative but i mostly do everything else with my right hand. it will be different for tons of people. but as of now the D-pad has had its worst day since virtual boy, agreed?

never played a fps on the ds but i always have trouble with games that mainly use the stylus.
i think it is just uncomfortable to hold the ds only with my left hand and use the stylus in my right hand. i know i can use my right hand to old a bit of the ds too but it doesnt feel good.

hope shooters will have many different controlschemse.
like aiming with slide pad moving with...hm okay that will be trick yxD

Terribly, as far as controls are concerned.

I think I'll just stick with my Wii for my FPSes.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

honestly i dont like the feeling of smeering the touch screen of my dsi with fingerprints. it just looks awful. and using the stylus and the circle pad at the same time is another reason to use a wii wrist strap for your 3DS

I like first person shooters on the ds. Using the touch screen to aim feels responsive to me(though it does cramp my hand after a while). Also with the analog for movement, you can map actions to the d pad. Why do people think gyroscope controls would be good? Do you really want to stand every time you play a shooter and how would you do that in a car? You would also look like an idiot in public spinning around with your ds.

who said you would be standing? i think you can just tilt your 3DS if that wouldn't be accurate enouth already
