It'll be shown in E3 in 2016 and released in March 2017. It's called 4DS. It has 3D effects and 4D effects, meaning that a Pokémon can attack you from the game and it will actually hurt you in real life. This is why all games will be rated 15+ or 18+ for it.
It would be great if David Wise made soundtracks to all future Nintendo games.

The 4DS was already shown in Rusty's Real Deal Baseball
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

That was the Nontendo 4DS. An obvious knockoff.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)

Does that mean the next handheld can't be called the 4DS since the product already exist through Nontendo?

Im not buy a new 3DS or a remodeled 3DS. I'm waiting. Question is how long? 2015? 2016? u_u
If you enjoy the 3DS a lot I would reconsider buying a New 3DS. Especially if you're a fan of 3D, as it's night and day difference in terms of auto-stereoscopic 3D, image stability, etc. I'm quite sure the 3DS successor is at least three to four years away.
my idea
it will be showed at e3 2015 as a rough model or hints about it and some rough game ideas at e3 2015 the full model and games in 2016
and release in late 2016 or early 2017
it would most likely be 480p to 720p and could be in 3D
and with a captive touch bottom screen
it most likely have two full size circle pads and with a d-pad,a,b,x,y and L,LZ,and R,RZ and start and select and home buttons
most likely as powerful as the wii u if not more
wifi 802.11 b,g,n,ac and nfc
and will have vc transferred to the 3ds
just a brainstorm
@andrew20 e3 2015 is too soon. they just released the new 3ds in japan and australia. europe and north america will probably get it around the time e3 comes.

Will it have a Godzilla NES port so we can experience the literally heart-stopping action of fighting Red?
They just announced and released a new one. This thread is meaningless.
I'm pretty sure to OP means a next-gen system, not a revision of an old system.
I realised that. But regardless, the fact that they just announced and released an updated version of the current system surely suggests that it will be quite a while before we get another (probably 3 years min). That's more or less how these things work. They don't bother making new hardware unless they're going to give it enough breathing space to gain some kind of traction.
