I've been eyeballing this one a lot lately. How do you feel about it? Is it a must-have, must-not-have, or somewhere inbetween?

I'd say it's a pretty respectable game in the 3DS lineup. I'll highlight a few pluses and minuses.

+Beautiful art direction, using a design new to the Mario and Luigi series.
+Creative methods of attack and defense, and a wide variety of equipment to select from.
+Battles are actually somewhat tough, and there's a way to make it even harder.
+Giant Battles use a combination of puzzle-solving and skill to make the action more interesting.
+To 100%, approximately 40 hours of gameplay, possibly more.

-Game tends to hold your hand through most puzzles, and there is an abundance of tutorials.
-There are certain points in the game that require use of the gyroscope, and the gyroscope fails to work properly (in other cases where you use the gyroscope, however, it works perfectly)
-Plot is a tad shallow.

EDIT: There's one more thing, and I can't believe I forgot to point it out: the music is absolutely fantastic. Every theme is well composed, and it has one of the best battle themes I have ever heard (not the best, but pretty close).

Its a great game, but it feels too slow and won't ever let go of your hand.

It tops Bowser's Inside Story, lol.

What Brewsky said. I loved this game, the boss fights were really fun, especially the giant ones. There was one noticeably aggravating spot but that was due to the Gyroscope. That was pretty annoying as well as the amount of tutorials. I'd say it's a must-play if you're a fan of RPG's and the series for that matter.

there was a demo of this up in the eshop, check if its still there. i really enjoyed the demo and i think that the mario and luigi saga looks amazing in 3d and cant wait for more. i actually do own this game now, but i still haven't had a chance to finish the last one, bowsers inside story yet.

It's a really fun game. Bit heavy on the tutorials, but the characters are interesting, the humour is great, the music is exceptional and generally, I'd say it's got one of the best battle systems in any RPG in history. Definitely worth buying.

I agree with all of this except to add one more negative. Since Luigi is only usable half the time, not all of his Stats are good when in Dream World.

I'll check that out this weekend. Thanks.

I'm so unsure about whether or not to buy this game. I adore Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story, but found Partners In Time to be extremely boring, and hate excessive handholding.

Are the characters as fun and quirky and well-written as ever?

I'm leaning towards just replaying Superstar Saga or Bowser's Inside Story =/

This game is not like Partners in Time. I hated that game. I loved this one.

Mario and Luigi: Handholding Tutorial RPG

"No one said you could touch."

I didn't like it very much (It was probably worth £15 that I paid for it but certainly no more).

Best RPG that can be played on the 3DS I think is Dragon Quest V.

Skip it. Bowser's inside story is better, both in terms of gameplay, art style, and story. Also, play Superstar Saga. It does not have all the depth of the other games, but it had more originality and simplicity at the same time. And there is absolutely no hand-holding. Skip Partners in Time also.

The general consensus on the Internet is that this game is "meh." I'll give its demo a shot (if it's still on the eShop), but I'll probably end up passing on it.

Thanks, guys.

While I can agree that Bowser's Inside story is really a great game, I still think Dream Team beats it if only because the humor in Inside's Story is only fun in the first half but in this, its all the time fun plus the game is really lengthy so definitely get Dream Team.

But I agree that Super Star Saga is the best out of all four of them because it just feels right.

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

Second best game in the series. It's brilliant.

I'd rate it slightly above Bowsers Inside Story but below Superstar Saga.

Its a brilliant game, but the game just drags on. I wish it would just show you the ropes and leave you to it, but it never does... but at least its rather enjoyable and the game can be a lot of fun.

I LOVE this game! Took the time to beat it a month or so ago, and it took me 50 hours. Does drag on a bit, but it's just so fun I didn't mind. Music is amazing! Better than Bowser's Inside Story for sure. Luigi has such a great role in this game.
