Topic: Have you noticed an improvement to the 3D with the New 3DS XL?

Because I sure have. I'm not sure if its the head tracking alone, or if the technology has just improved a bit since the last iteration, but the 3D is looking a lot sharper on my New 3DS XL then my old 3DS XL. Ghosting is basically gone, and some games that looked a bit chunky and pixily in 3D mode on the old looks a lot better now.

I really noticed this on the Code Name STEAM demo, where before I thought it was ghosting a lot, now its crisp.

Is this just the head tracking at work you think? Or is the screen a bit better?

massive difference, barely worked with me on the 3DS XL, now its rock solid with minor ghosting at the edges of the screen on the highest setting.

It is just the head tracking. The 3D technology in the New and Original 3DS is the same. There is not much you can improved with the parallax barrier itself.

As for the effect, I've only tried it once, but the difference is quite remarkable. I was pretty surprised at how much you can actually move the New 3DS around and still be in "the zone". So kudos to Ninty.

I'm hoping the Majoras Mask New 3DS model will get re-stocked soon so I can buy it.

It feels a bit better to me. But I'm guessing that's probably just your brain trying to justify your buying something new. I imagine if you really tested it (from the centre where the 3D is stable), it'd probably be the same as the old one.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Even if it's just the head tracking I feel it's a huge improvement.
I barely ever had the 3d turned on before.
I have spent quite a while on my new one without turning it off once

It's amazingly better.
I almost never used the 3D at all on my 3DS (primarily because of annoying "sweet spot" issues), but i have not turned off the 3D at all on the N3DS (granted, i only picked it up yesterday, but still ... )

Ghosting is still visible at times. This is due to the fact that the quality of the 3D rests on how well the developers have implemented it. The viewing angle is amazing though and I've been really impressed with the accuracy of the head tracking. Like you, I noticed the improvement in ghosting in Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. but games such as Resident Evil: Revelations still have rather pronounced ghosting.

The 3d is amazing, I keep it on all the time. I just wish the ghosting issue was fixed, you can reduce it by lowering the 3d effect but I like full 3d lol. I would use 3d on my 3ds and 3ds XL for like the first 10 minutes of a game and for the cutscenes but it was impossible to keep still.

The head/body tracking works great, sometimes it will loose me but that more user error then anything. I bring the new 3ds xl MM to close to my face and it loses the 3d for about half a second, then fixes itself. I don't see me going back to non 3d after how well it works. I just hope Nintendos next handheld still has 3d with super stable 3d as currently the rumour is the next console won't have 3d which is a shame since they finally figured it out.

This is not a hardware problem, but rather, it's the developer's fault for their poor implementation of 3D. Ghosting has not been a problem with Nintendo's own games, but third party titles often contain ghosting as they tend to do the bare minimum, or they just shoehorn 3D into the game without any understanding of how 3D works.

The screen quality is definitely better. More vivid colors and better contrast. Also the head tracking 3D is amazing!

I still got a bit of ghosting at times - even with Nintendo games. If there's bright areas on top of a dark background, there's visible ghosting at times.

In general, it's now really a viable option to use the 3D and it's very easy on the eyes. I just wish the resolution was better! Many games seem to have anti-aliasing which is sadly removed when 3D is turned on.

Anyone play Tomodachi Life with the New 3DS and see any improvements? I think that game has the worst case of ghosting issues.

The 3D technology is the same, but with face tracking. However, the visual quality improvements you are seeing is definitely true. I've compare the old XL and my new XL and the difference is pretty noticeble. I think Nintendo upgraded the top LCD screen's quality, the contrast and sharpness are significantly improved. The lower screen however are exactly identical between the old and the new.

Isn't the head tracking stuff supposed to fix that?

I played on my 3DS since release date with 3D on the entire time, and the 3D effect is the same to me.
The display is worlds better, though. Much better contrast.

Right which ghosting (i thought) was normally caused by not looking at 3D directly from the "sweet spot"

Maybe I don't know what "ghosting" is

Ghosting originally referred to TV stations getting their signals distorted, producing a second picture superimposed over the original. It actually looks not too different from when you move out of the sweetspot on an OG 3DS.

Here, the "ghosting" people talk about is more commonly referred to as crosstalk. Crosstalk is a common problem in most stereoscopic 3D displays, where the image from one side of the display "leaks" into the other side, causing both eyes to see both images. This is especially problematic when a game has a bright-colored object over a dark-colored background.
