Yay I found the thread.

Anyway, I figured I may as well share the latest info from Natsume:

Developer Diary #3: The Expanded Crops System
Our monthly developer diary series will give you a little bit of insight into the development behind Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley. Fans have regularly asked us to “peel back the mysterious curtain” on game development, and we’re happy to share some of what goes into a game.
SEPTEMBER’S DEVELOPER DIARY: THE EXPANDED CROPS SYSTEM
Today, we’ll focus on the crops of the Lost Valley. Let’s start with the simple, unassuming cabbage: You plant it, water it, and when it comes time to harvest it, you’ll have a traditional, normal, green cabbage, right? Nope! Not in this game! There are 10 different ways your cabbage can grow, such as a great cabbage, a red cabbage, or other mutations, depending on the various ways you grow it!
In Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley, each crop has numerous variants that players will need to discover! This goes beyond both the regular and “giant” versions of crops found in games like Harvest Moon: A New Beginning, but also mutations, such as purple flowers growing from pink seeds, pearl onions growing from a normal onion seeds, and even some mysterious pumpkin mutations that may grow when planted in swampy ground…which brings us to over 100 crops!
Players will need to experiment to discover all the different crop variations, and to do so, they’ll need to think outside the traditional field. With the capacity to plant anywhere within the Lost Valley, crops can be sowed at higher or lower elevations, closer to or further away from water, on dry land or swampy ground. Not every plant in these locations may result in a mutated plant, so farmers will need to keep trying for rare veggies and flowers!
Are you ready to take on the challenge of becoming a crop-growing master? Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley comes to the 3DS and 2DS soon!

CeeCee answered some new questions in the Natsume forums and released some very nifty news about the game.

She had previously said that tool upgrades wouldn't be in the game because they wanted people to use the helper sprites instead, but now she said that it will be possible to upgrade your tools in the final game (she also said that the process to upgrade them would not use ores though, so it's a mystery how will they be upgraded).

Another nifty thing is that all the seeds can be planted in any season. The big catch is that they grow better in their designated seasons. A winter crop in summer for example, will need much more care and attention than a summer crop.

@Morohbug I follow Ceecee on my Tumblr dashboard, she always has tons of info. I'm very curious to see what they've made of this game. Amazon has a release date of October 28. Have we see confirmation of that anywhere?

I hope so too, though it will be a busy time with Fantasy Life too. But, the more the merrier!

Looks like they took a cue from Rune Factory.

Well this works for me. That means I have one less game to buy this month.

Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Yeah I saw that.

Not sure how I feel about it either. I'm sure it won't be much of an issue, but not having a formal village will be... Different.

It does look pretty interesting...however no formal village/town???? That is pretty much a deal breaker for me, as such I'll stick to Story of Seasons for now. If Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley pulls in pretty good review scores, I might bite in 2015 though. For now, better stick to the "real" Harvest Moon (SoS) and see how this one pans out...

Well, I still intend to get it when it's released, that is if Fantasy Life doesn't gobble up all of my time by then, lol. I just hope it isn't a disappointment like Hometown Story was at the time...fingers crossed! The trailer does look good!

Had to smile at the phrase of Farming awesomeness.... After a weekend working in my real garden ( my husband kept insisting "listen, we really have to make use of this last weekend of great weather to get the garden winter-ready") I'm not so sure about Farming awesomeness. But, if it's virtual that's okay, lol!

It's sad there's no actual village to go to, but on the flip side you get to spend more time with your farm and developing your land. One I don't like in HM games is how you have to talk to everyone every day and having to read the same comments over and over, just to get them to like you more. In Lost Valley it appears the inhabitants come to your farm randomly, so that's good.

This game sounds so awesome to me. I love the idea of being able to shape your farm/land however you want, and the new convenient features make me wonder why the real series never got around to incorporating them ages ago. I already preordered the game (hope I get that doggy) and it's too bad it's not coming out next week.

I don't see any reason to get SoS. If I want to play real HM, I have ToTT to putter around with, and Back to Nature on my Vita. That's good enough for me. Of course, if MFoMT ever come to 3DS VC, I'd be all over that too.
