Wow, that IS different than what I was expecting. It actually looks neat.

I'm happy it looks different than normal HM. I actually am more interested in this than the true Harvest Moon.

It makes me feel a little guilty, but yeah, this totally won my complete attention and I want it much more than the 'real next harvest moon game' now.

I just hope the gameplay is as good as it looks.

They really meant it when they said a full 3D World.. I'll just have to wait and see some actual gameplay. I'll stay cautiously optimistic but from those screens it looks a bit strange.

Nooooo, why are the veggies so HUGE? That's what bothered me with A New Beginning

Ah well, the rest of the screenshots look awesome though, and the animals are just as cute as the real HM animals.

I've never been a fan of the Minecraft graphic style. I would have much preferred something in the style of Everquest Landmark. But it's been ages since I've played a Harvest Moon game, so I suppose I can't complain.

They look comparatively close to the size of crops in the 2D games.

The setting in this game looks so far removed from any form of civilization though.

Now, I like the art style and the potential gameplay, but is no one else worried that they might be removing every social aspect (dating and such) from this game?

Some more info from Gonintendo. Look's like the social stuff is still in.

Natsume studied the best-selling Harvest Moon games for inspiration

  • best-selling titles include Harvest Moon: Back to Nature for PsOne, Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town for Game Boy Advance, and Harvest Moon 64
  • Natsume examined common elements in those titles, analyzed media reviews, and listened to fan feedback
  • all this was used to create The Lost Valley
  • dig up ground all the way down to water
  • stack ground to make mountains
bring up a menu and press B to dig (lower the terrain’s height) or X to fill (increase height)
  • you need resources to build
  • each time you dig up ground you gain one soil unit
  • other materials include lumber, stone, wool, and ultimate wool
  • you have the ability to build bridges
  • plant crops at the apex of a player made hill
  • game has an invisible wall that protects farmers from falling more than two squares
  • dig a river to fish in
  • the A button is the all purpose tool button
  • when you place a tool in your backpack, the game will automatically use that tool when you need it
  • animals in the demo include sheep, cows, and a pet dog
  • choose to be a boy or girl
  • marriage system returns
  • NPCs in the demo include Hanna, Iris, Catherine, Gilbert, Hunter, Emily, Tony, and April
  • one of the characters is a mad scientis
  • another character is a wizard
  • there will also be a bard

....This is a veritable HarvestCraft Factory (Harvest Moon, Minecraft, fushed with some Rune Factory), and I'm not complaining!

It looks like it will be fairly big, but I really doubt it will infinite a la Minecraft. That would make it too easy to get lost and stray away from your farm...The game is called Lost Valley, not Lost World, after all.
