@Meowpheel Thank you. In all the videos I have seen of this game, I got interested. It's weird b/c some comments say it's horrible and some like it. From what I see, I like. I just missed the threshold to get it for 20% off with Amazon PRIME however so I will wait for a sale. The good news is I can still get 20% off Trio of Towns' ridiculous launch price of $54.99 CAD which brings it down to 43.99. These launch prices have a tendency to go down right before release so I can try pre-ordering it then.

Well, Amazon currently has plush bundles for the game, they're a bit more expensive, but you get either a blue bird or a premium bobcat with the game.

In case you're interested

@Meowpheel Thank you. I would rather get the game cheaper than the current price of $39.99 CAD (no plush). I'm positive it will go on sale some time next year.

@Meowpheel Speaking of, there's a Natsume sale going on right now. Skytree Village is not on sale, of course. TLV is $16 CAD right now. Should I get it?

@ollietaro I personally really liked TLV. I know it's a bit hard to enjoy for many people though, since you can only work one tile at a time, so getting things done takes time.

It's still currently my most played modern Harvest Moon, though. So it definitely clicked with me.

If you want to get a taste of this game, that one should give you a similar feeling. The story is also easy to play through and enjoy, if you don't feel like playing the game for in-game decades and unlock every crop.

@Meowpheel I definitely do not want to revisit the Tale of Two Towns experience of major upgrades locked into the calendar. This might be a loaded question but I'm interested in knowing how TLV clicked for you and not others. I am looking for a HM game that is not as complex but still streamlined (easy-to-control).

Return to Popolocrois is actually a nice game with nice and simplified Story of Seasons mechanics but I really like the look of Skytree. I'm debating whether or not to save $16 for Skytree instead of TLV.

It's hard to explain. I guess it helped that it was so drastically different, in a time when marvelous-made harvest moons were already feeling stagnant.

Also, I loved the idea of terraforming from the first time I saw it. And the whole marvelous-natsume separation thing did not bother me at all, so I was already more predisposed to like it than others.

@Meowpheel Same with me. I don't care that Marvelous and Natsume split, either. I also like the idea of terraforming. I actually had an aversion to the blocky fields at first but now I kind of like it b/c you can customize the landscape brick-by-brick. Are you still playing Lost Valley?

Eel

I do play it every now and then. Though with Skytree Village out... I might play it less often.

Though I'm kind of committed to Pokemon Moon for the time being.

TLV holds the distinction of being the only game in the series since Friends of Mineral that I have played for more than 4 in-game years in a single file.

(DS and A Wonderful Life don't count because they skip years)

@Meowpheel I bought Lost Valley at half price! I'm liking it so far (2 in-game days in: I built a path to the Harvest Goddess and planted Spinach and Broccoli). I'm loving the building up and down of land, the contextual tool menu (and 'Press A' to chop down the tree!), and no gift-giving. The wobbly camera is going to give me vertigo but I can get used to it (especially if I flatten out the land a bit...I want to make a plains area to differentiate from all the hills). I know I'm just going to love sowing hundreds of crops one-by-one! LOL. I swear, in Tale of Two Towns (The only other Harvest Moon I played) you had to give a hundred items to each villager whose friendship you wanted to raise to max., which was basically everyone in Konohana b/c I wanted to ace every cooking festival. Same, I'm playing Pokemon Moon, too. ToTT is the only game I have with about 4 in-game years, too. I could probably revisit it and get closer to owning both farms (I always just wanted the Fermenting Maker Shed so I could complete the recipes with all the dairy products in them--I still got some dairy stuff through requests except for "Great"-quality products--but I wanted to fully upgrade my Konohana farm first which would still be about two in-game years away, not to mention upgrading the Bluebell farm enough to get to the Fermenter request...I suppose I could move to Bluebell until I get the Fermenter, then move back to Konohana, right? It was either get the Fermenter first or get access to the mines first and I originally wanted access to the mines first). Sorry for all the text.

Tale of Two Towns almost joins the four year club too. I play it every now and then, rarely, but I also liked it a lot.

Glad to hear you're liking TLV! I do recommend trying to focus on doing one thing at a time, trying to do everything everyday is rather stressing in this one (specially if you try to mutate crops and terraform!). If you need any help with it, just ask.

Tip: when you get a barn and animals, you can store them all in your pocket for as long as you want without negative effects. It's useful for those times when you want to dedicate 1000% to something else.

Tip 2: the camera won't move around if you move slowly. And you can turn around with the dpad to aim (except when there's a selection menu that uses it, like when painting seeds).

@Meowpheel Thank you for the advice! Yes, the days are quicker in this one so I will take that into consideration. I want to continually grow crops but I also want to do terraforming as well so I will need to manage my stamina. Also, the dream about Sam did not result in me seeing him the next day. Does that mean I will see him soon, then?

ollietaro

Eel

Yes, dreams indicate a future event, but not necessarily for the next day.

Also, try checking the dlc store. I'm sure there's some free dlc there.

@Meowpheel I did check the DLC store and picked up all of the free ones. I would like the crop pack and Luke, too, but I wanted to play a bit more before I decide to buy them. The good thing about me buying this game now is it's been updated with a patch, something Skytree Village has yet to get. It's been a small journey understanding that the negative reviews of TLV were made by players who were NOT like me LOL b/c I am not a longtime HM fan. I am a longtime Fire Emblem fan, however, and I disliked some of Awakening's changes. I think TLV goes over well with people like us who either don't want the same experience or don't have a lot of experience with the series.

@Freelance Did you need to use the whistle to get yourself unstuck a few times to achieve this?

ollietaro

@ollietaro Nope.

I am not sure how to go about doing my next project though. I have some ideas but implementing them isn't easy.
