... Since my 3DS has 3D I always want to use it, unfortunately the experience is not of the same high standard across games (big positives that come to mind are Super Mario 3D Land and recent Castlevania) so what games and or genres, existing or not, do you think really profit from the 3D either by enhanced gameplay or "just" impressive visuals?
racing games, I'd love to see something a tad more realistic than Kartracers (love MK7 though) on 3DS since I think the depth of 3D can really enhance the feel of speed and position in space.
Golf games - better judging of distance is never wrong
Mortal Kombat - have it on 360, love it, is the best since the classic first two games, now imagine the fatalities in 3D!
Space games - playing Stat Trek online occasionally on my pc (don't laugh) and it has wonderful tactical space battles - something like that would look stunning in 3D since you could really see the scale of such a battle!
any game with boobs! self explanatory!
the legend of grim rock - old school dungeon crawler on pc that looks so stunning already almost 3D-like it would be such a perfect fit for 3Ds! Look it up!
That's all I can think of at the moment but I actually even like the 3d when it's used as "multiple layers of background" in sidescrollers.
Even if I don't need 3D really, since my fav. Handheld has it I'm glad when it's used in a fitting manner!

So you think 3D is doing more harm than good?
I certainly enver asked for 3D in my handheld (neither did I ask for that second screen) only for good games. But since it's there why not use it?
It's like getting a Wii U and only playing with PRO controller (which I actually was thinking about - given the option to do so - before I actually found out that the gamepad feels kinda nice in my hands).

Platformers are the only ones that benefit from it.
Fan of: Shin Megami Tensei/ (Classic) Mega Man/ Pokemon/ Batman Arkham/ Metal Gear Solid/Peanuts/ DBZ/ Regular Show/ Power Rangers/The Walking Dead/ Invincible/ Detective Comics/ Secret Six/ Immortal Iron Fist/ Lobo/ Green Lantern
Colors 3D:
It can look nice but I don't think it's actually improved the gameplay itself in anything I've played. My favourite use of 3D is in Kid Icarus Uprising and Ocarina of Time 3D. The cutscenes in OoT look much nicer in 3D. I especially like the little touches like snow or fireflies coming out of the screen.
Platforming/Puzzle/Adventure/Racing games, to be sure. When there's a lot of scenery change you get the chance to show off some cool 3D environments. The 3D really spices up the look of puzzle and adventure games like Professor Layton as well. It is most beneficial, gameplay-wise, to platformers.
I almost always play with the 3D on. It's too bad the 3DS' successor probably won't feature 3D visuals.
I think the 3D can make ambient games much more immersive, and it works really well for underwater games. A prime example is Steel Diver, which looks utterly fantastic in 3D. Something like Endless Ocean would be great on 3DS imo
Although aside from Steel Diver, there's no game which I always play with the 3D on. Generally I just check to see what it looks like, and then switch it back to 2D to stop my eyes from tiring out too quickly.
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
