Yoshi's Island's port was on the GBA, not the DS. You're getting it mixed up with Yoshi's Island DS, which is actually a sequel to the original.

well to give a answer on the question of the topic starter

its impossible to emulate gamecube games on the 3DS.
its possible to remake a game for the 3DS from a gamecube/wii/xbox/ and anything below, if not xbox360/ps3 with reduced quality.

Why mario sunshine doesn't got remaked for the 3DS is pritty simple. Mario almost died with that game. It was a horrible game compared to what n64 was. while 10% of the gamers liked it. 90% hated it, NIntendo needed to change there whole mario design around in order to give the game sequal a heavy boost after the horrible sales of sunshine and dissapointments.

mario galaxy was a 100% succesfull follow up. thats why you see a mario galaxy 2 and not a sunshine 2. And i dont think we will ever see a sunshine again to start with.

Anyway the game you will probably see as remake, is luigi mansion, as the developer of it stated already. it was one of the first 3D game that got tested / created. and probably will make its into with super smash brothers as second generation games ( like 2012 or something ).

Besides that, i think nintendo is going to focus more on creating new games behind the characters. As the president of nintendo said iwata. He wants new games behind the characters.

When I said Wind Waker, I added "sort of". What I was referring to was Phantom Hourglass. It's heavily based on WW, even though it's almost entirely 2D. It and Spirit Tracks are thus far the closest thing to WW we have on handheld.

Man, I dunno about that... But a plataform Mario game, like Super Mario Galaxy, or even the Sunshine (even though I know they ain't gonna do it.... probably) would be nice, even if it's a remake or a port (ports are nice and viable, since handhelds tend to sell more, thus being more popular... well you get my idea).....
Anyway, on top of everything, I would LOVE to see a Super Smash Bros game on the 3DS, would be sweet.... Also a Zelda with Twilight Princess-like graphics, or even the Twilight Princess itself (since I didn't have the time to beat it, and the game's link model was on the E3 demo, together with Mario Galaxy's Mario model, and some other games, and it seemed very close to the console version of Link from Twilight Princess)... Well, I guess that's it...

I wouldn't buy any remakes, unless they really added lots of features and other stuff to it like they did with Kirby Superstar. But if any game, I rather them remake the Wind Waker. Keep hearing about this "real 3rd dungeon" that was cut from the game because they were falling behind schedule or something.

Remake not a port. a port is cut & paste. remake is remade. Well anyway can't say Sunshine wouldn't be too bad; never played but It looks good and i couldn't stand galaxy 1 so I skipped galaxy 2. Mario Kart DD remade would be awesome; just hope they keep all the tricks such as the ability to dodge red shells and spike shells.

Just give us Eternal Darkness on the 3DS.

I think it's a good idea. I would really like to see Luigi's Mansion on 3DS and portable. By the way, Nintendo was actually testing 3D with Luigi's Mansion!
