There are something that I love about replaying a game, and some things I hate. A game like Super Mario 3D land where you replay it with Luigi to get some more stars for a street pass feels cheap, but is fine. What I do not like is when the "unlockable" is just a harder version like in Zelda: Link Between Worlds. I just spent hours enjoying the story, now I am asked to do it in a more frustrating way? My favorite unlockable was in Resident Evil 4 that I played on the Wii. After you beat it you get more weapons, and outfits from the start. Blowing through the entire game with a rocket launcher is way more fun than dying from less hits.

...Thoughts?

Mastered Replay Value: Kid Icarus Uprising
With a large amount of rewards to achieve, 9 weapons to play with, and an dat scalable difficulty. I love it.
It also helps that there are some really competitive people in Multiplayer.

Action games on a higher difficulty are pretty good, I'd say. Most of Platinum's games qualify. The game truly BEGINS when you start again on the harder difficulty and show the game that you've mastered it!

999 was a good way to add re-playability to a more story driven game. Its even a pseudo-plot point! Kinda.

Graphics come after gameplay. Every time. It takes more than being pretty to be a good game.

Increased game difficulty is a pretty valid way to replay a game but at the same time, I wouldn't replay a game on a harder difficulty unless I wanted to replay the game in the first place. It's basically just an excuse for yourself to play a game you already played, which is important for me is that I find it increasingly difficult to justify replaying that many games when there are always games I haven't played that I could be playing. I like what Bioshock Infinite did, where they changed how death worked in the game to give you a new perspective on it, which is perfect considering how much of the game you'll have a new perspective on after playing it.

I feel a lot of the 3ds games I played don't have much replay value, and I buy mostly digital copys lol. silly me.

Pokemon x/y while I know some will say it has a lot of replay value, after I finished it I sold my cart. Going around and collecting all the pokemon and breading to have battle worth pokemon didn't seem that great to me.
I wish I could of set the difficulty of the game at the beginning. None of my pokemon got K.O.ed and and 1 hit all the final battles except one lol. I didn't even grind lvl just played through the story. Almost sold the game half way through it because how boring it was. (I loved the older games, and still enjoy playing on my GBC)

Mario and Luigi DT -> don't see how much replay value will be in there, but I am taking my time and I enjoy it quite a bit, each the battles are like a different mini game.

NSMB2. ton of replay value for me, I love mario games, love going through them once, and then going back and trying to beat my scores get the coins and stuff.

Bravely Default : awesome game, I could see myself replaying it.

Really want to get Fire Emblem, have advanced wars instead.

I also loved zelda, but I have no intentions of going back on hardcore mode. Maybe in a few months and its fresh in my head and more challenging. But if i had the option of normal, hard, hardcore unlcok mode. I would of liked to pick hard in the begining.

idk I'm just blabbing now. But one my hated things about this 3ds is not much replay in the games I have played, But so many awesome games to play, and awesome DS games to be hand on the cheap if you ever need a cheap game pickup.

RE4 has got to be one of the best games at giving you more incentive to play again. I would say I have beat that game around 20 times on each difficulty......... and I am low balling.

Also who doesn't like replaying a pokémon game?

As for the worst, I would have to give that to Super Mario Galaxy. By far one of my favorite games, but man there is nothing to do after getting all stars with Mario and Luigi.

Does Majora's Mask counted? I went back in time and replay the three days like a million times!

Umm… Care to have some gravy?

If you play Pokemon X/Y for the story, you're playing it wrong.... The online battle is pretty much the best, and it makes me want to make my team better. I do agree that the story is a bit too easy. But hey, this game is aimed at the younger audience.

I can't think of any super-replayable games on 3DS either. The first one that comes to mind is VVVVVV, just because the gameplay is so intuitive that it's easy to jump into whenever you feel like it. That being said, I rarely replay games anymore, what with the easy accessibility of new games.

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

i almost never replay games. the biggest enjoyment for me in games is exploring the game world and trying to see everything. if i played through a game there is the high chance that i have already seen everything. maybe i replay games when there is some big change in gameplay. like in monster hunter. the weapons feel very different so it is worth playing through the game several times.

exceptions are retro games that i start again after a few years. i will get a playstation in the next weeks and i cant wait to play through my favourite game ever again: metal gear solid. gonna be so epic to play this game as an adult

I've managed to squeeze plenty of play-time from certain 3DS games, but others had really short main stories and I never wanted to pick them up again. That's fine by me though because I don't want too many games to play.

I'm starting to replay games I've beaten less and less, and I'm picking up more new games instead.
The only games I got last year which I'm still playing are Super Mario 3D World, Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Pokémon X. I only pick up 3DW once in a while, I've been playing Pokémon a bit less, but I've been playing more Animal Crossing.
I used to replay Skylanders a TON but down under we probably won't be getting any new figures for another month or so (since we just got the last wave) and I've maxed out every figure I have, plus I'm just tired of it and don't feel like going back to it now. So I'm taking a break from that game, but maybe when we get the next wave I'll start a new save file and replay it with brand new toys so it feels a bit fresh again.

I don't really feel like replaying anything older, but I still haven't beaten my new save of The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night, and I'm yet to start a new Dawn of The Dragon file- which I was gonna do afterwards. I was planning to replay the whole trilogy. I got up to the last level but I haven't started the game up again, because I remember it taking ages to beat it, and I haven't felt like spending time on it. So there's that.

True, didn't realize it going into the game.

Nowadays its hard for me to replay games again. Usually once I complete the main story even if there are extras to do I wont touch the game again. I think really what it comes down to is how much time I have to play a game and how many new experiences I want to experience. With a son, and a job I don't get a lot of time for gaming. Also for some reason current gen games I just find it hard for me to replay again. I mean older stuff like Mega Man II or Super Mario Bros 3 I can play over and over but I think that's main due to nostalgia.
