Okay, I'll edit the title to reflect the "If". I'd say Ninty is still weighing its options regarding the international name, though – it might not have anything to do with "If" in the end.

Is it just me or is there a bit more Japanese influence than at least in Awakening? Just the locales and the painting in the trailer bring Japan to mind. I remember seeing more of a "medieval-Europe" style in the earlier entries I've played.

Currently on the plate:
Mount and Blade: Warband – Napoleonic Wars
Chivalry
Super Mario 3D World – Finishing the last few levels.

@CaviarMeths Are you sure the magic triangle was removed? I thought it was in Awakening.

Aye, I'm sure. Sort of offset with skills though. You can still make an anti-mage magic unit by getting skills like Tomebreaker, Luna, and Aegis.

I doubt gay marriage. You're meant to have a child come from the future with great stats and skills from the two units pared. But we won't know if children come from the future in this, so hey. X races is the furthest I think they'll go tho.

I don't remember doing extra Magic damage to any type of tome my opponent was holding. But Light was removed from Radiant Dawn I think? It used to be strong against Dark magic/tomed enemies. All I know is Lighting does High Power w/decent accuracy, Wind beast Flying units, Dark is is like a tool kit (Hit very far, risk it for the biscuit and steal HP while doing massive dmg, etc.) while Fire... Dunno. I think it was just accurate with moderate power?

I just want it on Wii U, but I did enjoy those games a lot, too.
Still, Fire Emblem >>>>>>>>>>> no Fire Emblem. Super excited the series is alive and kicking. Can't wait.

It seems one side of the has European/roman influences while the other side has more japanese influences in the trailer

Radiant Dawn is actually the only game in the series, as far as I know, to have two magic triangles. Fire beats Wind beats Thunder beats Fire, just like in Path of Radiance, but then also Light beats Dark beats Element beats Light, just like in the GBA games.

Really hope magic triangles come back in If. I do love my magic classes.

I guess I'm one of the few that is glad they announced just a new Fire Emblem game instead of a Fire Emblem cross over with that other series. It never really interest me.
Awakening was great, and I'm glad this series seems to be getting a bit more popular here in the states. Still not as much as it could be, but still an improvement. It doesn't look like it will, but if it has the kids from Awakening in it (which I'd mostly be fine with) I honestly can not stand Gerome. I know that's a bit random but I just recruited him in my second play through recently of Awakening and it's the first time I've considered purposively killing off a character.

Why do you think they got rid of the Magic Triangles in the first place? Too confusing because Awakening was supposed to be friendly to new comers? Maybe it was a nerf because of unit's teaming up would be too powerful?

What was bad about Gerome? He's a character too. I mean you could have just not used him. He seemed like his mother. If you couldn't stand him, you couldn't stand her either. Unless you're a sucker for girls.

Teaming up is too powerful anyway, especially with Awakening's ridiculously high stat caps. Really needs to be rebalanced for the next game.

I think it's a combination of making the game more accessible and wanting to encourage players to use mages more like anti-tank units instead of pitting them against each other. There's no real advantage for using a magic class against another magic class in Awakening, discouraging direct combat between them. It's arguably more interesting to have a system where mages are strategically used against non-mages rather than other mages.

Maybe instead of bringing back the magic triangle, they can expand skills to include more anti-mage stuff. More anti stuff in general, really. Anti-mage skills, anti-tank skills, etc. Rally skills are a cool addition. I'd like to see them expanded to debuffs as well.

Oh! That's another thing I forgot about being removed from Awakening. There's no status effects. No poison, sleep, etc. Wow, I've had the game for 2 years and I just realized that now. That's another thing that should come back, status effect staffs like Sleep and Silence.

Also, Gerome and Severa both irritated the heck out of me with their abrasive personalities. Gerome isn't much like Cherche at all, really. Most of the child characters have very little resemblance to their parents in personality.

One thing I'd like to see for this game is the enemies pairing up, I think that could add some interesting challenge in certain chapters. Imagine, you see a Dark Mage with extremely low Defence, OK, easy fodder for a swordsman or whatever but wait, here comes a General to back him up.

Am I the only one that disliked Awakening but loved every other game in the series? I don't know... Awakening was very innovative and creative in terms of the relationships, players having children, interesting story- I just didn't like it.. I don't know why, but I really love the previous titles in the Fire Emblem series (Sacred Stone, Rekka no Ken, Shadow Dragon, Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn).

I hope this game'll bring back those previous titles memories to me! So I'm excited for it.

Debuffs sound cool in a way, but my stomach says other wise. Maybe because Awakening was to be friendly and Passive and tank skills are just too much that every unit should have them, then what's the point of debuffs. It's broken and no fun. Debuff opposing units Atk, Increase Def, Tank Skills, Weapon Type advantage skills... ughh.... Very well face the Great wall of China.

Their's ways to get around Armored Units and Magic Units. Magic units normally have low defenses and Armored vice-versa Resistance. It's pretty easy to say use Thoron on an Armoured unit then hit with a Hammer or Rapier to do bonus damage on them, but Skills like Passive and such can activate, that's not to say you wouldn't use two mages in the first place w/2x hit with their low speed instead of risking going up close in the first place. Still, Tank skills and Weapon Type skills (Tome Breaker and such) need to be taken out imo. Cause every team has unit that Breaks then another that tanks everything. Basically everyone has them. The game isn't flexible

The annoying thing about Mages is that they always retaliate unless you're 3 spaces away. If they got rid of Passive and such. Then Rally and then Debuffs would make the game much flexible and be a great idea instead of just being BS and having everything on 'Luck of the skill activation' on every time being attacked. You can throw a tank out to the middle of everything but buffed characters need to be close to the user and even lasts 1 turn.
And I miss those status effects. Poison was creative, had to make sure you carried antidotes and that's why Sacred Stones is my favorite.
Speaking of Sacred Stones. What happened to the class that could summon a Phantom. I get that skills can stay with you when you change class in Awakening, but if there was a skill that would only work on a certain class. Bring back Phantom Summoning!! Again more flexibility and stupid BS skills being on every unit. Miracle>Vantage>Vengeance=2OP.

I hated the Summoner in Sacred Stones because that phantom was an EXP hog. >_>

As for skills and stuff, I think it needs to be balanced in a way to encourage the player to actually put a lot of thought into them. Awakening makes it so you can overcome most disadvantages with raw stats. Having 40 Speed/Skill/Luck is a hell of a thing. This is flat out ridiculous.

If stat caps were slashed by about 15-20, with more varied skills, buffs, debuffs, and status staffs were brought in, there would be a lot more variety in strategy and parties.

Also, unlimited reclassing should probably go. Sacred Stones had it right, where every unit had a set base class and a couple promotion options.

"This is flat out ridiculous" Arrghh! Motherf- And Awakening is basically pay to win too. The stat max and exp boosting packs... Uhhg.
Agreed on a stat shortage. And no DLC that increases max stats.
Agreed on reclassing. Time consuming. Anyone can basically be anything. I think, you should allow demoting on the characters so you can re-grind them for the same class or get Mage skills on one class, then demote then go to the other Mage class for example, but not go from Paladin, to Thief, to Assassin, to Mage etc. Just stick in the characters base class. Your own avatar character should be the only one capable of doing demote to any class and such but only for a number of times so you can't make yourself...

This is flat out ridiculous

I mean it's only one unit I'm talking about here. Compared to the amount of BS in Awakening.

Should just make another FE continue on from Sacred Stones geez.
I miss you Ephraim, Lute and you too thief guy whom looks like a blue haired Ike with a crybaby girlfriend.
