To those people wondering about the name (such as @iKhan), I just finished watching the Japanese version of the direct, and they are referring to the game as Fire Emblem If (the "If" in the title, referencing the bigger changes that happen based on your decisions?).
The game logo they showed has Fire Emblem written in Katakana, next to If in English.

Fire Emblem "IF" !!! Hope they spend a bit longer on the name then.
Hey, so I don't know if this is better suited for an amiibo topic, but I figure that with all the Fire Emblem amiibos from Smash now confirmed, could they be used to add that character to your party in this game?
If you've clocked in as many hours into Awakening as the average Fire Emblem fan you'd probably notice. It was the first thing I noticed lol.
The lack of feet really bothered me in the beginning. I thought my game, or worse, my 3DS was faulty. Eventually a google search cleared up the matter for me and now I just consider it a really funny/wired thing to decide to leave out.

Fire Emblem: Infinity Fire = Fire Emblem: IF
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Looks good, but I was expecting SMT x FE from seeing that first part of the trailer so I can't help but feeling disappointed.
Same. Putting that game on the back burner, as it's obviously not coming out until 2016. I love FE, though, so I will be getting this game. Thankfully they modeled feet, this time.
Lawd help me once I hear about the amiibo crap that's gonna be locked up all over this game.

The game seems to have a weird connection to water.
I wish it was called Water Emblem for that sake. It's so stupid, it's good.
Yeah I noticed that, there were water and boats where the girl with blue was dancing, the girl sinking in water, and the sound of a water drop at the end of the trailer, and the color of the girls hair, but that one is a stretch.
Awakening is a Fire Emblem with the things that make it unique nerfed or removed.
(With any luck it is back to business as usual.)
Yeah, I keep seeing people saying this without actually saying what it is that was removed. Granted I've only played Awakening and Sacred Stones, but I loved Awakening - it's one of my favourite games. What exactly is it missing that every other game in the series has?
it's just miserable human beings being whiny while pretending choice is a bad thing, Make fun of these people if you see them but ignore them otherwise.
Your wrong in thinking me disagreeing with something affects my happiness in any way.

I was quite surprised, I havent played awakening yet (much less any other fire emblem game) but I suspected this was a one-title per system kind of franchise. I think they are hitting in the right direction - especially the japanese market should like it!
It really depends on how you define it. It's a confusing series. 7 of the 13 mainline FE games are JP-only, and several are either side stories or remakes.
Fire Emblem 3 was both a remake of Fire Emblem 1 and a sequel. Then Fire Emblem 11 was a remake of the remake and Fire Emblem 12 was a remake of the sequel. Fire Emblem 2 is more like Fire Emblem 1.5 though, and Fire Emblem 5 is more like Fire Emblem 4.5. I guess that would make Fire Emblem 3 Fire Emblem 2 and Fire Emblems 11 and 12 would be 9 and 10. Fire Emblem Awakening is Fire Emblem 13, but the 6th game in English and hopefully you played Fire Emblem 1, Fire Emblem 3, or Fire Emblem 11 first, because it references that one game. Also, Fire Emblem 7 takes place before Fire Emblem 6, which is JP-only.
Fire Emblem 10 is the odd one if you ask me.
Wow! Like I said I havent yet played any title of the series, and it will probably take some time until I lay my hands on awakening, simply because there is too much for me to play - before that awakening. But thats OK, I take my time with games, usually weekend only - too tired after work -
Like I said in another post I think I will try that Puzzle & Dragons mario edition first - seemed kinda cool to me - rpg gaming combined with this symbol arranging battle system -
You don't have to play any previous Fire emblem game to understand awaking. It's a completely new cast of characters and even a different time setting. And as far as I know it doesn't make many (if at all) references to past fire emblem characters. Most of the callbacks are from the characters you can download that are from past games.

Path of Radiance introduced a "shove" action. It was pretty neat. A heavier unit could shove a lighter unit over to the next square. It had strategic applications, like hammering a boss with a low defense unit (eg Swordmaster) and then shoving them out of the way and putting a tank in the spot instead to end your turn. This feature was carried over to Radiant Dawn, but dropped for Awakening.
The biggest omission is weapon weight though. Better weapons were usually heavier, which affected your speed. Weaker weapons were lighter, which often resulted in dual hits. Even slow classes like Fighter could dual hit if you were using an Iron Axe vs a Silver Axe, usually. This was removed for Awakening, and only your speed matters in determining dual hits.
Also, terrain height. There were some missions in previous games were standing at the top of a cliff/ledge which give you a huge attack/avoid advantage over units on lower ground.
Oh, and magic triangle. Magic, like the sword/axe/lance triangle, also had the rock, paper, scissors mechanic. This was removed.
