I overall, consider Fates to be better than Awakening, but, after over 130 collective hours of playtime( Birthright and Conquest), I do have one grudge.
Anyone notice how to "Hit/Avoid" system in this game seems to be a bit askew this time around? I'll routinely miss attacks that say there's a 80 percent of a hit, and I'll get hit with alarming regularity by attacks that have a 30 or below possibility of a hit.
At first, I dismissed it as a glitch, but over 4 save profiles and over 130 hours, it still persists. I simply don't remember this happening in Awakening nearly as often.
Anyone have this problem, too?
Awakening is the outlier, Fates has returned to Fire Emblems traditional Spiteful RNG God.
Here is a link that explains how hit works in the games. It appears that Fates uses the same system as the older Fire Emblem games. http://serenesforest.net/general/true-hit/

Anyone else irritated about how almost EVERYTHING affects stats now? Like, katanas gives you more Spd but less Def and Res, or how certain weapons(looking at you, Bold Naginata) take away 5 Def and 5 Res?
I find it irksome. I understand Hoshidan weapons give stat boosts to make Birthright easier, but it's still irritating.
Also, I still have NO idea what the hell Ddg is. I thought it stood for "Dodge" but it's a different stat than Avo. What's it mean?
Steel Katanas taking -3 Effective Spd. Hagakure Blade/Waterwheel taking away HALF of your Str after you attack. Silver weapons taking 2 Skill and 2 Str away after you attack, certain weapons taking away 20 Avo, some can't follow-up on attacks.
Brave weapons in Fates, as opposed to awakening, are so hard to find, even if you're Nohrian.
Ugh. Everything's more complicated this time around.

@BlastRadius: Yeah...it did irritate me a bit seeing how weapons now affect stats. But then again since durability is removed, what can you expect? The only ones that don't affect you are staves when you use them.
So I beated Birthright just now.....and I'll be honest, nothing in birthright feels memorable or challenging. Once you get Ryoma, you're pretty much better off just using him paired with someone. The only time where you will need to do a bit of grinding is just your avatar alone. Give your avatar two boots, increase luck, spd and skill and promote him/her and you can beat the boss in one turn........
Characters are not that great except swordmasters and Ninjas.....everything else just seem...eh.
I played in Casual mode, but never once until the final boss did I ever use battle saves and it took less than an hour to beat some chapters. This is without a doubt, the easiest FE game I've ever played.
Look, I get why they buffed up Ryoma. Birthright was designed for the newcomers of the series and knowing that not everyone thinks a lot when playing, they had to make some overpowered unit and Ryoma is one of them.
But even the story isn't that great to begin with......You know what. I'm certain now that I'm glad I got Conquest first and then Birthright.
I'm taking a little bit of a break from FE until my mind is all set for Revelation. Meanwhile. I'll just chat about FE and play some platform games......damn I'm missing Mario at this point! XD
I'm getting rekt right at the 5th chapter, lol. I wonder where my skills have gone.

@Grumblevolcano well going by how often I seem to miss at high percentage and get hit by low percents, I think it is the same system as FE 1-5.
"you have played a game from FE1~5, you should notice the difference in Hit percentages while playing. Even though your characters have 90 or so Hit, they will miss fairly often and, conversely, even though enemies have 30 or so Hit, they will hit quite often. If Sety or Shanan (or other characters with high Avoid) appeared in FE6~11, they would be even better dodge-machines than they already were!"

I believe the proc's and ratios (or what you call 'Die rolls') are more savage this time round because, previous FE's like 6, 7, etc, had 2 rng rolls to benefit the player more. To make the game more in favor of the player.
It's apparently changed, and set to 1 this gen.
I remember Serenes talking about this somewhere.

THANK YOU! It was never explained in the tutorial slides, I don't think. So it's basically like Skill but it doesn't increase your hit rate also? Okay great, thank you.
@Socar : Don't get me started on Ryoma. I hate him with such a fiery passion, halfway through Birthright, I couldn't wait to play Conquest to beat the hell out of him.
Nohrian classes are so much cooler than Hoshidan classes, I agree. I enjoyed Conquest's characters more, too.

He's just so flat. He exists for one purpose: to be the tough guy prince. He's completely predictable, not once did he ever say or do anything that surprised me.
