Why would anyone remaster the game that started the Final Fantasy downfall? If anything FFVI should be remastered in 3D.

Just looking at sales numbers you would easily see that your statement is atrociously wrong. FFVII lifted off the company to new height it never seen before.

It's cool to hate on popular things.

FFVII wouldn't be a bad thing what-so-ever. I've never really sat down to play it and enjoy like I have with FFVIII which is my favorite in the series but that doesn't mean I don't know how successful this would be on the handheld. Throw in another remastered FF... maybe even two, or three and you got yourself a hell of a reason to own a 3DS. Updated graphics, better framerate, updated audio, and well anything inbetween. I really don't know what was wrong with FF7. Throw me a bone here!

IT'LL SELL LIKE COD YO!

Just for you.

That would be awesome if they went back to their roots in original FFT style fashion. FFTA was a good title but it was too "kiddie". It starts off with a snowball fight for crying out loud.

On the plus side, FFTA's camera doesn't suck

And even so, the original was still the better game. Just goes to show you how good it really was I guess... Excellent point.

Just looking at sales numbers you would easily see that your statement is atrociously wrong. FFVII lifted off the company to new height it never seen before. You people forget or don't know that FFVII was originally being developed for the SNES, then they shifted it to the N64 but they then later came to the conclusion that the game would be far too big to fit on one cart and so they instead released it on the PSX on three discs. They moved away from Nintendo because of the media limitations that the n64 had. As soon as Nintendo released a winner, the DS, Square turned around and gave them not one but two exclusive remakes from the ground up while the PSP only got slightly enhanced graphics and not much else in their FF releases.

Ok first off moving the series from Nintendo to Sony is not why I hate FFVII. Compared to the early Fina Fantasy games the story line was horrible and the characters were flat and didnt have any personalities. Everyone says that Sephiroth is a great villain. How can that be? He was your typical take over the world because I am mad at everyone villain. And the scene where Aeris (or whatever her name is) dies come one I have seen better tear jerker moments on Saturday morning cartoons.

Even if it did end up on a Nintendo system it still would have been crap compared to the older FF games.

Yes, in your opinion. Your first post questioned why anyone would remake this game, but your points don't change that people found FFVII to be genuinely enticing. Enough so that it spawned a feature film, numerous spin-off titles, action figures, you name it. This was the game that truly propelled the franchise to new heights and some go as far as to say it was the biggest reason for the newcomer PS1's success (which is debatable, I suppose). Surely it could be profitable to remake?

Bingo.

I must revoke my previous comment early in this thread. The more I think on it the more I wonder whether it's not a financial concern SE has with FFVII, but more the critical reception.

If SE announced a FFVII remake, the anticipation would be mammoth. If the game didn't then average 100% on metacritic then SE's share value would take a pounding.

It would be a big risk to remake FFVII and have to meet the modern gamer's expectations.

final fantasy 7, i think its a sony exclusive, with rights and all. not gonna see the light on a nintendo console.
if it has to be, it will either be on the vita (they got the crisis core engine backing it up)
or even the ps3 or the next home console of sony. when you see what they did with advent children, you really wanna have these graphics for a game.
seeing battlefield 3 gameplay footage, i think the next gen console will be able to make a FF7 looking closely to the advent children movie. this is more the FF7 remake i want. a freaking total revamp, even for the scenaristic side to make it more immersive and movie like. and i dont want it on a small screen, but on my tv screen.

which remake i want then ? dragon quest 7. they re-did all fo them to 6, 7 is coming next !!!
this is a masterpiece. The story is beyond, the scripts are insanely rich and changes with everything you do real time.
its a perfect candidate for a handheld gaming experience.i sunk more than 200 hours into my savegame, and yet i was far from completing every jobs, or every side quests from the game.

Oh---my---God. I didn't realize your name was Tasuki. You opinion takes precedent over all other opinions and here I was trying to make intelligent points about huge demand for FFVII products and the huge returns that SE has made on that brand name to date. Dear me, you are correct. SE does not care about making money, they care about Tasuki's personal experience with a game. I stand down.

Yes, because that makes sense. Companies worth are not actually influenced by net earnings, no, they're determined by some nerd working for IGN or Gamepro. The fate of the world is determined by a group of people who live in a bubble 24/7. Right.

No, it's not. It was released exclusively on the PS1 but it's SE's intellectual property and they can do whatever they want with it.

Apollo you're out there alright...ugh. FF7 when it came out sold very well solely on marketing, if you're old enough you could remember that. Massive advertisement blitz from both Sony and Square, all sorts of side promos, big stuff made about how it got lifted from Nintendo. It was bred to sell well, but I mean if sales were a meter of how good a game is, that Matrix title from the last gen must have been a system seller and many other multimillion sellers who rate average or less over time.

You also seem to have reading problems if you're taking a dig at Waltz's comment of let it stay on the Sony system. I know it said consoles, but it doesn't take but half a brain cell to know it's a PSN download and those for PS1 games work on both hardware, so what's with the snark kid?

I swear this always happens. Someone cries about wanting FF7 redone, then you get the rabid fanboys making illogical arguments to have it come back time and again like how Nintendo overdoes it with Ocarina to death annoyingly too. Some just can't see beyond the truth of the situation when it released and how it ended up doing well beyond its own merits on the disc and would rather get insanely defensive as if it were their family or something. It's a game, go play the old one and enjoy it, get over it, and play something new. This day and age of gaming the market is very hard for third parties anymore due to the massive expenses involved now and they really need to pick and choose otherwise they end up dead or merged out of existence.

Going back to being serious for a moment:

Yes, because that makes sense. Companies worth are not actually influenced by net earnings, no, they're determined by some nerd working for IGN or Gamepro. The fate of the world is determined by a group of people who live in a bubble 24/7. Right.

THQ lost a lot of money in a heartbeat when Homefront got less than positive reviews. Its shares took a big dip, because Homefront was a major project and big investment from THQ. Before it was even released (and became a best seller).

A lack of shareholder confidence can wipe millions out from a company like Square Enix. So yes, I was right.
