There is no way this will ever happen. However, this game desperately needs to be remade. I played it recently, and it has aged horribly. Speed of the game is slow, graphics look quite bad, and diologue scenes take way to long.

@WaltzElf, yes, I know and it's sort of sad. I wish we'd get a animated Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy II anime series but I know that much like the proposed The Dark Crystal sequel movie and animated series might not have a successful time getting off the ground. Not to go off topic but they've already shot down Johnny Depp's Lone Ranger and I'm really upset about that. So, I know Sony isn't going to let Cloud Strife and company pop out in 3D under Nintendo licensing in the very lest.
It's got nothing to do with Sony. Square Enix's best interests are for FFVII to stay put on Sony consoles. I wouldn't be that surprised by a Vita remake for FFVII. Unlikely still given the expense involved, but at least in the realm of possibility.
Don't forget, for the numbered Final Fantasy games, Square Enix wants to provide gamers with a blockbuster experience. The 3DS just doesn't have that horsepower.
We'll get other Final Fantasy spin off games, or remakes of the retro Final Fantasy games though, I'm sure.
i wouldn't mind a new final fantasy game for the 3DS other than that other game. Wouldn't mind a Dragon Quest game for it either. Actually I think there`s a new Dragon Quest game being developed for Japan.
@ nintendopower.com/polls it tells you that there is a 3DS Dragon Quest game on the way. It doesn't come out until next year I believe.
Haven't Square Enix already said that they aren't going to remake FFVII? Wasn't it because of how much work it would be to turn the background drawings into fully three-dimensional environments?
As for my own opinion; I never played FFVII, I don't care about it, and the 3DS needs more original content.

actually they said recently that a remake is very possible.
@WaltzElf, what's your opinion on the potential for the cultural impact of Gravity Rush and PS Ruin? Do they have the capacity to impact pop culture the way FF VII and Zelda Ocarina of Time have?

I'm not sure what the point of this question is? I have absolutely no idea. I don't know anything about either game. :-/
Ugh no...this doesn't 'need' to happen, the only need is for this never ending need for it to stop. Remakes are getting old and FF7 is grossly overrated as it is. I get the nostalgia behind it, trust me I do, a lot of people cut their teeth on it as their first RPG in that huge wave of new gamers that came due to the PS1, but the game is mediocre and really just needs to stay in the past and stay as a downloadable adventure like on the PSN. Precious resources (money, manpower, and time) would be better spent on new projects by Square, not rehashing the past, same can be said for Nintendo with their n64 upgrades. Sure they're nice, but totally unnecessary.

No, they actually recently said a FFVII remake is very possible. Square has already given Nintendo complete remakes from the ground up instead of giving them to Sony.

Do you think OOT looks like crap in 3D?
The original OOT doesn't look like crap.
The original FFVII looks beyond bad. It's aesthetically broken.
That was the point mr. Mickeymac was making, I believe.
Actually at the time it was praised for it's cutting edge graphics and innovative 3D character rendering on 2D backdrops. A remastered version would have new, updated graphics.

Then is should sell like hot cakes no matter what. Excellent reason for them to do it.

If it was mediocre it wouldn't have sold a crazy amount on PSN.

Gaming companies don't care what you, in particular want, they care about was the masses want and I assure you the masses want this.

It's already on a handheld, the PSP... There goes that idea.

Nintendo proved all the needed to about it's ability with OOT. It's got the power to handle a FFVII remake and give it awesome graphics with cutting edge 3D effects.

A bunch of people got it wrong, then. I can go and find you actual instances of where the game breaks basic laws of aesthetics if you'd like.

Agreed. It just depends how expensive it would be to remake. That is a very big project to HD-ise. Square Enix isn't known for wasting opportunities to make money... there is a financial reason they haven't started a remake yet, whatever that is.
It's already on a handheld, the PSP... There goes that idea.
Well, the PSP is a Sony product, so that was my point in the first place.

If SE was to remake FFVII it would be looking for something more like FFXIII than Ocarina of Time. And I assure you, the 3DS could not handle FFXIII.
Why would anyone remaster the game that started the Final Fantasy downfall? If anything FFVI should be remastered in 3D.
Just looking at sales numbers you would easily see that your statement is atrociously wrong. FFVII lifted off the company to new height it never seen before. You people forget or don't know that FFVII was originally being developed for the SNES, then they shifted it to the N64 but they then later came to the conclusion that the game would be far too big to fit on one cart and so they instead released it on the PSX on three discs. They moved away from Nintendo because of the media limitations that the n64 had. As soon as Nintendo released a winner, the DS, Square turned around and gave them not one but two exclusive remakes from the ground up while the PSP only got slightly enhanced graphics and not much else in their FF releases.
