So, aside from Xenoblade (a port), and some SNES games that have seen multiple releases already, what are Ninty doing to sell the N3DS exactly? Not much IMO. They are really good at making things and dropping them like hot cakes when the initial well of ideas runs dry. Often they will incorporate a feature into their devices (the component costs of which are passed onto the loyal customer) and never/seldom use it....I'm looking at you Augmented Reality on 3DS - mic and camera on WiiU too!
Why throw the kitchen sink at your console features then implement draconian strategies/underpowered hardware that negates their use? Voice and video chat in-game could have been a great selling point for WiiU but we end up with a mic that gets blown on for mario games and a camera that, for me, has only ever been used to take a picture to use in Game and Wario!
The galling thing here is that Nintendo sticks by the 'lateral uses of withered technology' school of design which means whenever a great new concept such as motion control comes along, it is hamstrung by crappy tech that means it hardly ever delivers on the original concept..
Enough ranting..discuss
SHHH CANT HEAR YOU Im playing Monster Hunter Generations the only other game that utilizes the c-stick right now!!!! Board Closed.

Way to go again.
Basically you shouldn't buy products for things that they don't currently do. That would have stopped you from thinking that the New 3DS was anything other than a minor revision. It wasn't a new portable despite the name, it was a bit of polish.
Also for context:
GC -> GBC: 2x CPU speed, 4x RAM. 15 bit colour up from 2 bit "colour"
GBC -> GBA: Entirely new architecture, 5x RAM, higher resolution screen
GBA -> DS: Entirely new architecture, ~8x RAM, higher resolution screen... and another screen
DS -> DSi: 2x CPU speed, 4x RAM. Added cameras and 256MB of internal flash
DSi -> 3DS: Entirely new architecture, 8x RAM. Higher resolution screens
3DS -> New 3DS: 2 -> 4 CPU cores, 2x RAM. Added extra controls and NFC
Of the hardware revisions that actually changed the internal hardware? The New 3DS is probably the smallest improvement. Nintendo was never going to invest heavily in software for hardware that's effectively a stop-gap. Don't get me wrong, the New 3DS is worth it if you were in the market already but it's not a "New" platform. The only exclusive content it will get and has received is stuff that Nintendo wanted to sell on the original 3DS but struggled to get running smoothly.

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"
I genuinely don't get why anyone thought the New 3DS would get much use. 3DS is Nintendo's bright spot in terms of success right now (at least in terms of things that aren't Amiibo), no way they would risk isolating and dividing that market.
tbh, my problem with New 3DS is that it makes the original 3DS look like a joke by comparison. I might've enjoyed 3D more often if they had just started with it!
They probably mostly intended it to be a new thing to get non-3DS owners interested.
It's fairly clear they didn't intend to really win most 3DS owners over with it. They're just doing what's in their financial interest really. Not worth developing games for it when it'll knock 50 million off your potential audience.
There's also some indie games coming remember!
I remember there were some users predicting doom and gloom for the 3DS when its "successor" had been announced. Because it was totally a completely new console and Nintendo would completely drop the old system and start to make only N3DS games.
I think the new 3ds was just an updated 3ds, good for people whose 3ds broke or those new into the fold. I havent bought one yet - will probably get back to it. As far as being shortchanged, well, nintendo has been doing this game for quite some time now and its one of the major reasons why they lost so much market share. So people should generally be aware of they are getting themselves into. I buy nintendo consoles for the nintendo games, period, so I dont care too much about hardware or third party support. Should I buy the nx I will just stick to nintendo games and the occasional jrpg from a third party. Chances are I wont buy a new console at all, though...
Right now I am feeling shortchanged with the way nintendo is selling the fire emblem special edition
I honestly think the real reason Nintendo was so keen to get the N3DS to market was to get support for Unity. I love the Vita, but I recognize that without Unity support the Vita would not have very many good games to play these days. It is indie studios and localization houses that are keeping the Vita from drying up. Those studios rely on Unity to ensure that they can create games for PS4 and then port them to Vita. Nintendo knows that they will be in that same zone soon with the 3DS. Releases from big studios (including their own first party studios) will dry-up once the NX is out and picking up steam. If they want to extend the life of the 3DS then they need indie support and Unity will make that happen.
