Topic: Favorite 3DS RPG? (so far)

With the upcoming release of the promising Denpa Men: They Came by Wave, I want to ask what your favorite 3DS RPG is at the moment ("3DSWare" & 3DS VC count, too).

For me it has to be the epic Tales of the Abyss. It's not just my favorite 3DS RPG, it's my favorite 3DS game, period. A fun cast, epic adventure, 50 hour playtime (not counting side quests), fun battle system, colorful graphics. I can't think of a negative thing to say about it!

My second favorite has to be the surprisingly masterful Sword of Hope II, of 3DS VC. with 15-20 hour playtime (great for GB), beautiful spritework, and a classicly simple battle system, this game was quite the surprise.

Pretty sure Planet Crashers is the only RPG I have so far on the 3DS, so I'll say StreetPass Quest II.

Yeah, the 3DS doesn't exactly have many RPGs worth talking about. Tales wasn't released in Australia (or if it was, in such small numbers I've never seen it for sale).

Sword of Hope gets my vote. Considering the RPG is my favourite genre, and a decades-old Game Boy game is the best RPG on the console... holy crap it's not wonder the 3DS pisses me off.

SMT: Devil Survivor: Overclocked by far. Any others aren't even a contest.

But yeah, 3DS doesn't really have many RPGs worth talking about. The best two are ports (Devil Survivor and Tales of the Abyss).

Best thread ever

Does Find Mii 2 count?
All joking aside, I have to agree, The Sword of Hope 2 is a fantastic RPG.

Hopefully Unchained Blades will live up to the hype, as it it poised to be a great 3DS RPG Download.

I'm actually surprised no one's mentioned Kingdom Hearts 3D or Heroes of Ruin yet (I haven't played either, but I know they have their fans on this site). I believe there were even a few people that liked Dragon Crystal (VC).

I'm going to be playing Denpa Men this week, and I hope to get KH:DDD and/or Paper Mario: Sticker Star before the end of the year, so maybe my favorites will change soon.

Kingdom Hearts is barely an RPG (even by JRPG standards), and Heroes of Ruin is just. plain. terrible. Seriously, it is the worst Diablo clone I have ever played. And I played that Gameloft one, Dungeon Hunter Alliance.

The Vita - you know, that console that apparently has no games - has better RPGs. Disgaea 3 and the PSP/ PSOne back catalogue are on it, and Atelier Totori (<3<3<3<3<3<3<3) is on the way.

The game isn't even out yet but I'm pretty sure "Denpa Men" will become my favorite RPG on the system when it releases next week. I've already played the demo for over 4 hours!

Let's see it has: TotA, Denpa men, Denpa men 2 (Japan), Soul hackers (Japan), KH DDD, HoR, SoHII, Glory of Hercules (Japan), Last Bible II (Japan), SMT (Japan), SoH (Japan), Terry's wonderland 3D (japan), Rocket Slime 3 (japan), and MH3G (Japan), and probably more more Japan only RPGs I didn't mention so the 3DS does have RPGs just a lot more in Japan then anywhere else

You seem to think us american and european people will consider japan-only games as our favorite 3DS rpg.

Denpa Men will probably be my favorite (and only) 3DS rpg next week though.

Lets see, I have 2 RPGs on my 3DS, Heroes of Ruin,(If you count it as an RPG.) and Fire Emblem: the Sacred Stones, I'm gonna go with Fire Emblem.
@HarmoKnight Fire Emblem: Kakusei/Awakening is classified as an RPG as well.

I used to travel the stars, then I discovered Earth, and these incredibly addicting things called 'Video Games.'

Oh yeah, completely forgot about Heroes of Ruin.
That gets my vote then, it's a step up from StreetPass Quest II.

Ask me again at the end of March next year, and I'll have a more solid answer.

I'm going to be a sheep and say that Denpa Men game.

That's because the pickings in this area are slim, slim, slim.

What about KH sets it apart from other action RPGs? Besides not having one big unified overworld, I don't really see what makes it less of an action RPG than let's say Sword of Mana (GBA) or Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals (DS).

Also, have you tried the Denpa Men demo yet? If so, what do you think?

There's a point where action RPGs become so focused on action and button-mashing they become action games. One of the founding values of the RPG genre is that it is strategic. There's no strategy when you're trying to keep up with button inputs.

And no, it's not out in Australia (surprise surprise)
