So, Atlus recently announced Etrian Odyssey V and released a brief video trailer for it. Siliconera has this to say about it: "The title was announced at the end of Atlus’ Etrian Odyssey NicoNico livestream with the above trailer. While details are pretty vague, the trailer mentions a new world with the phrase “potential for disaster” in English, and concludes by saying the adventure will go to a new world."

Sounds good to me. Altus is 5 for 5 in porting these games to the West so far too, so I don't see any reason why they wouldn't continue. I expect announcements for both this and Untold II to be localized.

With the announcement of this and EO Untold II, Atlus is steadily becoming one of my favorite companies, and Etrian Odyssey one of my favorite game series.

How did I miss this?? O.o

Called me hyped! Can't wait to see what they do with it. I'm going to guess this time we will get a full story. If this is the case I will probably play the regular way and then the story.

Heh, I love the Vita, but EO really needs two screens.
SMTIV would have been AMAZING on the Vita, though.

I hope it isn't like Untold's story mode. I'm fine with some story, as long as it isn't intrusive. EOIV was a perfect model for how to evolve the series while still staying true to the series' roots.

To avoid anymore Untolds I think it will be like Untold I and II. I'll just assume they're working on III next with the possibility of an Untold IV but I don't think it needs one. Either way, as long as they have the core gameplay intact it's all good to me. I would definitely choose non story for my first play through of V but like you said I hope they split it up and give us the option.

The problem is it still hasn't been confirmed for the 3ds. That still scares me.

I have to imagine the EO games have been successful on the 3DS if Atlus has kept releasing them for it. It wouldn't make any sense not to make it for the 3DS now.

Considering that EO has always been a handheld franchise, Atlus primarily likes to work with older hardware that they know is owned by more people (consider how late Persona 4 released on the PS2, Devil Survivor 2 released on the DS, and Persona 5 is releasing on the PS3), and the fact that the N3DS is still dominating Japan in a big way, sales-wise, and it seems incredibly unlikely that it wouldn't be a 3DS title.

I'd like to be wrong, though. An EO game on the Wii U would be amazing.

Have they ever taken this long though to reveal a platform?

@Spoony_Tech: It took them a good long while to reveal what platforms Persona 5 was releasing on, from what I remember.

New details on EO V:

"Some new details for the game have been revealed, namely that character designs are being handled by series mainstay Yuji Himukai, and its story will take place in a mysterious land named Arcadia. The game will see various classes return, and will also have more character creation options.

Various bits of information have come from an interview with game director Shigeo Komori. Voices are being added to the game, however you can also choose to play without voices (more on that later).

The hound class is named after the pets it makes use of. With new classes being added to the game, you can make an entirely new character from what has been seen in previous games. Sub-classes made previous entries easier to create a party with no faults – the team is focusing on making this harder in Etrian Odyssey V.

The character customization has been enhanced to the point where you can even have your characters eyes be different colors (heterochromia), as well as seeing an emphasis on freedom and dungeon exploration.

The table-top RPG feeling of the dungeon exploration has been improved, alongside the icons, controls, and map on your bottom 3DS screen.

The four confirmed races thusfar include:

Arslan (Similar to a Human)
Brani (Similar to a Dwarf)
Cerian (Similar to a Beast)
Lunaria (Similar to an Elf)

The first ten classes have been confirmed as well:

Cestus (Arslan)
Dragoon (Arslan)
Fencer (Arslan)
Hound (Cerian)
Herbalist (Brani)
Necromancer (Lunaria)

Shaman (Brani)
Warrior (Cerian)
Warlock (Lunaria)
You can choose from a multitude of voice actors for your characters, including Akira Ishida, Kaori Nazuka, Yoko Hikasa, and more. Thereare 22 in total.

"Finally, development on the game is roughly 60% complete."

This sounds amazing so far! I hope we don't have to wait long for a localization.

@Ralizah: Thanks for the added info. I can't get enough news on this lol. Still I don't think we will see this in 2016. In going to guess we get it in February just like IV did. Sure it would make a nice year end game but I just don't see it getting localized especially with voice acting nearly as fast.

i can't wait for them to announce this game for the west. Hoping for a 2017 release. The races sound amazing. I would love to play as an elf if possible

From what we've seen thus far I'm not seeing a full on story mode which is a good thing for us EO faithful. I could be wrong but with all those character customization it lends to the original style as oppose to the Untold set up.

That character creation tool looks neat. I always have a habit so make up my own personalities for the blank characters I make in non-Untold modes, so this is perfect. I also like the look of the classes and races. Now let's hope they are all available from the beginning, unlike IV!
