More like an actuality. I can box up the DSi and mount it on my wall of past video game systems. (I'll probably go back to mess with a few features, but yeah.)
Oh wow. OMG. I was praying for this (lol) and I felt like I sounded really irritating when I kept asking this same question over and over on more than one dsi forum, but this puts my mind at rest and lets me know my MANY dsiware titles won't sit on an old system forever. That was one of my worries when I would spend, on average, $5-10 a month on dsiware titles that I never knew would be able to be transferred or not. Now I feel justified in my purchases. I love that Nintendo is taking initiative and allowing this.

Going to be interesting to hear how this will work. I don't expect they'll have it be an update to the DSi that allows saving "exportable copies" of DSiWare when it could be as simple as punching your DSi's number into a 3DS and all the licenses that could be re-negotiated get assigned to the 3DS... No, wait, that won't work, would require confirmation on the DSi or theft would be rampant... Hmm... Yeah, I can't see this being do-able without having both the DSi and the 3DS in front of you and fully functional at the same time. Which means you can't sell your DSi to help pay for the 3DS or you'll lose all your DSiWare.
At any rate, going to be interesting to read about how they cracked this nut without opening a door to rampant theft.
That sounds good, but would I also be able to download DSiWare onto my 3DS? I'd like to get the Game & Watch games, but don't want to spend an extra few hundred to get a system I'll hardly use.

I have no problem with eventuality. It's like she will eventually get a 3DS at some point rather than possibly. It will eventually happen.
I had been holding off buying Dsiware for this reason, but I'm still wondering how Hatena is going to work with the transfer. I'm hoping there is some update that lets you transfer your account from one to the other.

(cough)Flipnote Studio 3D(cough) Think about it....
Some software may not be able to transfer...I would like to see the list of transferrable games, and better yet, how the system even works.
The only reason I can think of a game not being transferrable, is because of the new camera position. So I expect that all DSiWare games that do not use the camera are transferrable.
What @invmat said. As for how the transfers would actually occur, I would think they wouldn't transfer in actuality, but you could link the 3DS to your Club Nintendo account and have all the licenses right there, allowing you to download them off the 3DS Shop without a problem.

Unlikely to use Club Nintendo for the transfer. They might, but I hear it's not available everywhere Nintendo is sold, so... As for some DSiWare not being able to transfer, they need to re-negotiate the licenses with the various game companies before they can allow them to be transferred. So most will go, but some may not. I doubt it's any kind of technical issue, more likely it's legal issues. At any rate, we'll find out more when this program launches, but we don't even know when that will be.
