This all seems fairly obvious, I could tell you all of these things having not even tried them with the circle pad.

Tetris is definitely hindered. It just isn't comfortable, or fun, sliding blocks around like that.

I never even thought of using the Circle Pad w/ that, so I didn't. How could you even think of controlling it w/ the Circle Pad? It all makes sense to me now why I didn't. Because it's a bad idea. I think we've found our winner for what DS game is hindered most by the Circle Pad, even though this isn't a competition.

I was testing it out, of course it was going to be awful. It's so bad it's just fun trying to do it. Really much worse than any virtual console or sidescroller titles. (I haven't tried Mario Kart DS with it though so I can't say if that's worse.) Anyone who has Tetris, seriously, you must try this out. Especially at Level 20+...

Yeah, Tetris is pretty bad...

So, it seems that the best are 8-direction and 3D games. Not much surprise here!

Link's Awakening DX if that counts.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Mario 64 DS is an absolute blast when played on the 3DS with a circle-pad. I'm also thinking of playing Rayman DS on this console.

PS. Sorry to digress from the main topic a bit, but I saw that you're talking about DS games on the 3DS, and I wouldn't like to open a new topic only for a single question. So, I'd like to know if the DSi games (such as Sims 3, Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem) use the extra (DSi) features when played on the 3DS, the ones that weren't available when played on regular DS and DS Lite consoles..
I'd appreciate your answer on this one.

I'm pretty sure they do as I've seen the 3DS being mentioned for DS games with DSi features that were released after the 3DS was released.

I agree. I find simple movement is where the greatest benefits of the circle pad come out - because it's so comfortable. It feels great roaming the overworld in Dragon Quest IX when you can just rest your thumb in a direction rather than hold a button. A small difference but a nice one.

used it a lot in GTA Chinatown war.
the worlds end with you and Dragonquest 9 also did good with the joystick.

picross DS is a big NO for the joystick.

Use the Circle Pad on 3D DS games, and the d-pad on 2D DS games. Problem solved.

I can't speak for the DS version, but I actually prefer the slide pad for Tetris on the VC. Maybe I'm just strange, but I think it works fine.

I do feel that when playing Tetris Party Deluxe for DS.

Again, I seem to be conforming to the norm here, but it's the top-down and isometric games which benefit most from the circle pad. I say that whilst in the middle of playing Inazuma Eleven, which is just uncomfortable to play with the 3DS' D-Pad.

I think that most d-pad games are hindered by the 3DS. Not only is the 3DS d-pad awkwardly placed, but it's shallow and mine creaks and squeaks. That's why I keep my DS Lite handy for games which need the d-pad, as it's so much nicer that way.

I go by Lin1876 everywhere in games, so keep an eye out for me!
