Yes, I'm fairly certain a DS can play original DS games.

@Cfuller95: I have two things to add to what everyone else has correctly told you:

1. 99.9% of the DS/DSi games out there can be played on a 3DS/2DS with no problem. However, a very small handful of games such as the Guitar Hero: On Tour series cannot be played on a 3DS/2DS; games such as these had to be played with an add on accessory that plugged into the slot for GBA games, which (as mentioned above) the 2DS/3DS do not have. These games are very rare though, so I wouldn't fret about it.

2. If you plan on downloading any games from the 3DS (2DS in your case) eshop, there are a small handful of games there that cannot be downloaded onto your system as they are only compatible with the New Nintendo 3DS/New Nintendo 3DS XL. I haven't been on the eshop much lately, but I believe these are well marked as N3DS-only games. There's also a retail game (Xenoblade Chronicles 3D) that can only be played on a N3DS.

Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)
