I have just recently started playing my Gran Turismo 3 and 4 games on my PS2. I was happy to play them again, but the Dual Shock 2 controller didn't feel right to be grasped in my hands after being used to only playing Nintendo consoles for 1 1/2 years. The moment I got comfortable with my Dual Shock 2 and when I got over that Sony wanted to get all of the rights of Nintendo SNES in the 1990's, I pondered as I raced around the Laguna Seca Circuit and came to a conclusion. Since Nintendo has released a powerful handheld and is going to release insanely powerful hardware in their coming up console and the PS1 and 2 are really weak compared to the 3DS and upcoming Wii U, a racing simulator is possible. The Circle Pad Pro(XL) does give the much more open possibility of having a precise accelerator and braking system and the already existing analog circle pad would serve as the really nice and smooth steering controls. Even if you dont own a Circle Pad Pro(XL), the game could still be played but not with the super precision you would have with a Circle Pad Pro(XL). Extra shoulder buttons could add much better features such as your E-Brake, and Nitrous could be L and R and the shifting would be done with ZL and ZR. But the face buttons could be: Up on D-pad-change view, Left and Right on D-Pad: Look sideways, Down on D-Pad: Look Back, X-Shift Up, Y-Shift Down, A-Accelerate, B-Brake. Bottom Screen could be used for map display similar to Mario Kart DS and 7(seeing other drivers locations and immediate location, like a full color view of the track to see turns and sand-grass traps.) It could also be used to display lap times, Lap number, Position and damage. Top screen could also display position and shape and location of track. The Speedometer would also be on the usual corner it has always been in racing games. The top of the top screen could have a rear-view mirror to make it a glimpse to see the person behind you instead of refocusing on the top screen to the bottom back to the top.
A driving simulator would be a very in depth experience on the 3ds because of gyro, CPP support and because it is a powerful system. It would be great to see your thoughts on my extreme ponder I had during a somewhat disappointing time on my ever dreaded PS2 using the ever so uncomfortable and symmetrical Dual Shock 2 controller.
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
it might only end up being just a dream, unless a developer is listening. O_O read this nintendo developers, i call you to NL's forum today just to read this thread. (jk)
I'm not a huge fan of racing games, to say the least, but this could work well for those who enjoy those games. However, as you said, this would be a bit bold of a concept to take on.
Also, hint, Insomnia is the medical term for what is basically sleeplessness.

Screw you.
I don't know if the market's that big for a portable driving simulator. Then again, I haven't really seen anything on those lines in the portable space, so I guess there's no way of knowing unless a dev gives it a try. Still, putting something with the complexity of Forza on a handheld with the same amount of cars is a pipe dream. Still, it could work. I feel like if it was on 3DS and Vita it would have a better chance of surfacing, due to the bigger group of people.
Best thread ever
Feel free to add me on Miiverse or PSN.

There's a very workable version of Gran Turismo on the PSP. If it was possible there, it should be possible on the 3DS.
Given the 3DS has a hardcore farming simulator and an F1 game already, I think it's a safe bet that there's a market for serious racing games and niche titles alike.
Shame on at least half of you all for picking on a guy just because he wants a game in a genre he enjoys.
