There wasn't an official thread for this so thought I'd start one.
Figured I'd avoid the roman numerals so people with poor sight don't have problems confusing the 2 threads.

So I don't actually know anything about this game. Can someone who's played the original and/or knows about the 3DS version give us a brief?

I'm quite excited, as I adore DQ 8.

@Dezzy: Dragon Quest 7 is basically follows the Hero and his friends as they discover secrets about the mysterious islands surrounding their home of Estard. Through some ancient ruins, they are transported to the pasts of various islands and must defeat evil in each new location. Or wise that's basically what happens in the game.

Some random dude on Nintendo Life.

I think I've been spoiled by IX's customization and I'll be all whiney if I try playing VII :/
I think I'll just jump across to Final Fantasy Explorers, since that seems to have some neat co-op.

Stay safe, kids: Make sure to save frequently during multiplayer, and always use a stylus!

I've been waiting for this game ever since it was announced for the US on PS1, but never came to Europe. So yes, I'm very excited.

2016 looks to be a good year for JRPGs in general for PS4 and 3DS.

I will be preordering as soon as these pop up. I love Dragon Quest IX

I noticed something about the press releases on last night's Direct, that both of these games weren't under the heading for third party games. I wonder why that is?

Totally going to double dip for this to show Sqeenix that there is a market in the west for DragonQuest however I'm not sure if I'll replay at this point. About 40 hrs into the Jpn version.

Probably because Nintendo is the one bring it over, not square enix.

@SuperWiiU: I remember I was so happy to find this DQ in a second-hand videogames shop since I grew up watching "Dragon Quest - The big adventure of Dai". Then I went back home, inserting the disc in my PAL-SECAM PlayStation only to discover it was actually an NTSC release. (for the record, it was on a shelve among PAL games and the shop owner said nothing) Now I can get my revenge !

@Pokefanmum82: In case you have'nt played any Dragon Quest prior to the eighth episode, I should warn you: Dragon Quest IX is nearer in term of feelings to Fantasy Life (from the same developers, strangely ^^) than any "old fashion" DraQue. You could be either pulled-off or totally fond of it depending on your opinion about RPGs.

i thought that might be the case. I was just wondering if anyone else noticed it lol I don't care either way though because I really want to play these games. I'm just glad they are coming over to the West

Well, looks like I need to finish up Dragon Quest V soon (playing on my tablet). I've gotten to Nadiria (the underworld), but have stalled because I've been grinding (there's only one more piece of armor I need to buy from the nearest shop before I move on, so hopefully I'll have it finished before year's end).

And it's mostly coming from Square Enix. They're making a huge return to form this gen after being awful for the last one.

@Dezzy: Atlus has a big hand in it, too, but I am glad that Squeenix is finally finding its feet again. Years of horrible Final Fantasy games and nothing in the way of its other big JRPG properties were becoming very depressing.

I've never played Dragon Quest. So I'd want to know that is this one of the series that forces you to play the other games or something that offers new stories per game?

And which one to get? This one or Pirate's curse? I first thought that I should try out the other dragon quest games before trying this out as I'm curious why a lot love this franchise a LOT (And I'm also curious as what elements Fire Emblem borrows from Dragon Quest.)

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

@Artwark: To my knowledge, like most of the Final Fantasy games, all of the DQ games have separate stories that can be enjoyed independently of one-another.

Also, DQ VIII is Journey of the Cursed King. Pirate's Curse was part of the title of the last Shantae game.

@Ralizah: My bad.

But still, the only reason I would want to try atleast one game out is because of it being something related to Fire Emblem and as a game designer, I'm curious.
