I have to admit he makes some good points. That's not Yahtzee, though.

Everyone usually hates on a Nintendo console, it was the same with the Wii in 2006, so it's not unusual. After a year when it's picked up momentum and has better games available then it should decrease a little.

I don't remember it being as bad though, in the first year I thought most people liked the Wii.

Of course you had all the Xbox and PS fanboys insulting the motion controls... until Sony & Microsoft copied the Wii and then motion controls became cool... now they can go motion bowling and all the fun stuff we have been doing on the Wii for years , but it's better now because the pins are in HD and everyone knows that bowling is no fun unless each pin is made up of at least 100,000 pixels, it's in the National Bowling League handbook.

Rocketship

SteveW is right, many fanboys hate on Nintendo, especially for not having super-highly defined mega graphics. But the fun games Nintendo has like bowling and such are the kinds of reason it can take the 3DS out of this bad start. For example, sales should rocket when Mario Kart is released, even the most biased of fanboys I know can admit that Mario Kart is one seriously good game!

Maybe, I don't really care. People hate to much on everything nowadays.

I love it.

@SteveW Hah, I wish. The Wii got abused quite a bunch because people didn't like the thought of motion controls and it was just a gimmicky, it wouldn't catch on and it was kiddy. The next year when the Wii flew off the shelves and built up an amazing reputation with a huge amount of sales that destroyed the 360's and PS3's the haters shut up.

But Nintendo will always get bashed, the problem is, these Sony and Microsoft fanboys don't realize that Nintendo do things differently. They makes games and consoles for everyone and anyone, whereas Sony and Microsoft push up their prices so only the "elite" gamers can afford. Nintendo are in no way the best console developer, but I love them because they think outside the box and renew the idea of how to play video games making them epic in their own way.

In all honesty, I think it's too early to really bash the 3DS. This holiday is what will definitely count for the 3DS.

What people think now: "The 3DS is an expensive piece of excrement >"
What people will think when Mario Land/Kart come out: "This is the best system ever!"
*Note these aren't my opinions, more of a stereotype. I love my 3DS.

As soon as a Mario game hits a console, the sales will rocket. Mario is like Halo, it's what makes people buy the console.

Thaaaaaanks for noticin' me.

If there is a problem with the 3DS "strategy" it's that they've lost the brain-age crowd to Apple. The 3DS can't win that crowd back because, for the most part, those people aren't interested and are even freaked out by the idea of 3D. In 2005 my Mum was eyeing off Brain Training, she picked up a Wiimote in 2006 and actually played a game. The 3DS? Not interested at all.

However she is now eyeing off my iPod Touch with all it's fancy gadgetry. It's a calendar, an email reader, a rain radar, it can hold bus timetables AND it's got scrabble! Who needs a silly Nintendo when the Apples can do all that? I don't know how many people Nintendo pulled in further than Brain Training and into, say, Professor Layton but if they haven't got them by now they've lost them. Having said that... these aren't the sort of people who'll be upgrading early.

For the kids and the core gamers.... Nintendo's got this by the balls when Mario Kart launches.

i used to like next gen grsphics. next gen hardware and everything around it. just for the eye candy and wow effect.
then i took a look at my game pile, some i never ever finished and were bought jsut for looking at the graphics.
they sure looked amazing...

then, when i check my nintendo ds or gamecube game piles, i remember how much time i finished those games, how much fun i had with these. most fo nintendo's game still give me a good feeling and make me wnat to play them again. and sometimes again, and again.
i rarely felt this with a super high HD def game.
my best memories of games arent about the graphics, theyre all about the fun factor and the quality gaming time.

i chose nintendo for this, and thats what i get. cant say im a nintendo fanboy, but im a fan for sure.
i still owe sony a lot of gaming time with my ps1/ps2, but i got them very late, when everything was cheaper and used copies could be found. ill do the same with the ps3.
still, nothing will beat what the SNES gave me.

show her Picross DS. you can be sure she will carve for a nintendo DS or 3DS.
picross is a record breaker for me, its the number one in my time spent AND number of times played. and its almost twice as the number 2 !

Spot on.Good post Sir.

The 3DS will be fine once the big hitters come and there is room enough for every console to exist in the market place. I can't see it having the same success as the DS ,mainly because of the points @Skywake makes, but that doesn't mean that Nintendo will be going under, just that their profits might be a little less!

What's this bit for again?

Punny

The reason people are so hard on the 3DS right now is the lack of major software. Sure, there's Zelda, Street Fighter, and Nintendogs, but most people want Mario. Just give Nintendo some time to wow their consumers and most of the hate will be gone.

I'm guessing the holidays will be better for the 3DS. Not many people are going to buy a 3DS right now (unless it's for a birthday). The recent price drop should help improve things. Not to mention a new hardware color and some big name games coming out this fall. Patience is a virtue. The best thing to do is wait.

I'm back (for the moment)!

Personally I think Nintendo should have waited till this holiday season to bring out the 3DS instead of in March when hardly no games were out. Someone in marketing just didnt know what they were doing.

I think that the fans were a cause for that problem. The 3DS premiered at last year's E3 to massive popularity and fans wanted it as soon as possible. It would have seemed unspeakable for them to have to wait until the holidays of the following year to get their mits on one. They seemed happy when the March date was confirmed, but now they are complaining that it was released too soon! WHAT THE HECK!?

No real offense to the fans, though!

Well as I said someone in marketing should have stepped in and weighed the differences. I mean sure people would have had to wait till this holiday season to get their hands on one but you would have lessen the complaints of bugs and color options and available games at launch. Two of the major reasons I waited to get one now was cause of the launch games and the color options. The bugs and software like Netflix and eShop not being available at launch was another big factor too.
