I've been thinking of formatting my system for a while, & I want to know if it will erase data off all of my game cartridges & my online save data on the cartridges itself, or if you have the SD card (after formatting your system) when you insert it, does it bring back all of your online data? Cause before I erase my data, I need to grab some more additional info. So please leave answers below if you had formatted your system before & what it had deleted off your system, I really appreciate it ! Oh & don't be shy to message me for a race against me in Mario Kart 7 !

If you choose to format your 3DS, you will lose all of your data (except for maybe photos and sound recordings), and you will be unable to re-download it for free from the eShop, even if you have it on an SD card. For example, if you format your 3DS and you had bought, say, Pushmo on your 3DS, you will have to spend to $6 on the eShop to re-buy it, and it will not have your previous save data on it, even if you have the old copy on the same SD in your system from before you formatted your system. Just be sure to keep that in mind if you've downloaded a lot of stuff from the eShop onto your 3DS.

Exactly.

It shouldn't do as that data is stored on your SD card, however you might not be able to access the data on your SD card as your 3DS will be seen as a new system.
You will lose everything on your 3DS' system memory, you WILL be able to download your purchased games from the e-shop as long as you don't delete your e-shop account.

Why do you want to format anyway?

Format your 3DS, supposedly only erases the 3DS saved data. Your eshop data, has to be erased via eshop. Go to settings in eshop, find your downloads. You can probably find your games.

I called Nintendo, I am right! Also you may want to connect your club nintendo, it helps them when they do maintenance.
