It has in a lot of cases, but at times I ignore it knowing the media often lies exaggerating the truth or lies thrown out there to get attention, be a drama queen, or suck up to a developer who paid some money under the table as 'advertising fees.' If I can via one means or another gray or not I'll try one out I'm suspicious of and then go from there. I mean almost no one reviewed Lionel Trains On Track for the NDS and what was out there wasn't that encouraging. The fact is the game is butt ugly, I'm talking 1st gen GBA graphics if that in some parts of it, just bad, and the sfx are good, but the music is awful and you pick one of like 4 tunes to have cycle every 30sec...argh. But, if you get passed the really crappy presentation value, it's basically Railroad Tycoon 1 from the old DOS days. You play a sandbox or a scenario, build up towns with stations, added shops, tie cargo between routes to get manufacture goods, and so on while buying/upgrading/managing trains. It's pretty fun and you can get sucked in for hours, if you don't mind the uglies.

Had I looked at what people 'reviewed' it for just whining how primitive and eye and ear bleedingly bad it was, I'd never have enjoyed that game. I wrote an 'honest' review of it up on Gamefaqs.com some years ago, take a peek if you care.

I don't even check Gamestop, if I want a game I'll get it. For example, Shadow the Hedgehog got bad reviews, but I think it's one of the best Sonic games ever!

I rarely agree with reviews, so no. I have learned which review sites generally share my opinions, though, so I know which to pay attention to, and which to ignore, for the most part.

It often does for me. I use Gamerankings.com to get an idea of what a bunch of different sources say. Scores by themselves are somewhat pointless though - I'll always read reviews to find out the reason for a game's score.

If a game I'm already interested in averages 8-10/10, then I'll likely grab it - that doesn't mean I'll grab any game receiving those scores though.

Games getting 7s and below will require a bit more deliberation, and I'll do more detailed reading to find out the reason for such a score. Then I'll make up my mind.

Being married and working means I don't have as much time as I used to for gaming, so I'd rather spend what time I have playing quality games!

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

considering my low budget, when i got spare money for a new game, i really need it to be quality. especially with 40-45 dollars the title.
of course reviews has in influence, but i go and read a lot of them before making a decision. i wouldnt say that one single review would stop me from getting a game. its the overall score. if everyone tends to say the game is mediocre, it wouldnt be a surprise if i will too.

I risk getting a low scored game when theyre cheap, used or in a bargain bin. still, ive found very fun games that had bad reviews, and i found stupid boring games that had higher scores.

and to be honest, nintendo life provides me great reviews, maybe the closest to my gaming opinions in general. this is part of the reason why im here on this forum.

When a game gets a really, really low score. I might end up getting it just because it makes me more curious. But I'm weird like that.

I sometimes use them as a guide to weed through a list of new releases, but there's plenty of games that are scored low but I've found enjoyable. I usually find out about those through word of mouth, rather than reviews.

Sometimes I'll miss out on some great games for a time (eg. Nier) and sometimes I save myself some money.

I don't look at ratings. I only read the reviews, and see what's good, and what's bad. Sadly some gamers only look at the ratings, and make their decisions on that, which, if you look at some forum posts from here, and other gaming forums, seems to be alot. To me, Ratings shouldn't be a big factor, Which is why Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions is still on my Purchase list.

Currently Playing: Kirby: Mass Attack

Since Ive learned that some reviews are just rating games bad because the writer doesnt like the company / the game / the price (aso) I just click reviews to see screenshots.

Latest additions to my library: Steel Diver and Solatorobo. Both games had bad ratings on german review sites (compared to the regular mainstream stuff). But both games are pretty fun to me. Same matches on Tingle btw.

If I would buy games on only-good reviews / ratings I would have missed pretty good games so far.

Grammar errors? We could use the german language instead of the english one of course - do you dare? ;)

I never look at the rating. I read trough the review and see if they mention stuff I know I enjoy in games I usually play. Scores won't matter, that's just their opinion.

Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again

I do what most gamers don't: I actually READ the reviews. So it depends where the score comes from.

f.e.: All those low scores for 3DS games because they don't have enough in the package for 40 bucks....well, I'll just find it cheap. It's a stupid reason to give a low score in my eyes....and there are many more.
I just got Alice: Madness Returns on the PS3....great game. Most reviews I read were ridiculous.

I also get the feeling more and more that most reviewers just can't sit back and enjoy.
