Like a user posted here earlier on how he enjoyed DualPenSports, then I guess some critically panned games have some quality in them... just not all of them, of course.
Rarely. Only example I can think of is when I was going through the eShop yesterday. otherwise, I use my own judgment as to whether or not a game would be good for me or not. Conversely, a high rating rarely makes me go out and buy a game, since just because some other people liked it doesn't necessarily mean I'll like it.
Question: What do some of you consider a low rating? Because for me it's anything below a 5. I'll admit, I've never bought a game with ratings that low, however, that's usually because after examining all the facts, I end up agreeing that the game isn't worth my time. I still don't think the score prevented me from buying the game, though.
Usually if the game appeals to me I get it regardless of reviews, and if a game repulses me I don't get it regardless of reviews. They can help sway me when I don't feel so strongly either way, though. Also I hope you mean low rating as in critics don't like it, not just the scores themselves. Using scores alone to judge a game is doing it wrong.
@Mickeymac Hmm, anything under a 6 I guess. 6.5 is still a red flag but the likes of 5, 4, and 3 are, well, low.

Why would I waste my time on a poorly made game. Theres a reason why their rated low.
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...

a 6 and under for me is low .. also Control and Gameplay are key when a score is a lowballer.
I only asked because I had recently adjusted from thinking 7 or below was a bad score. I'm not sure why I thought that, especially since a lot of games I liked had those scores, and I know that nearly everywhere has 7 as a good score. For some reason I also thought a lot of people also thought 7/10 was a bad score, but I guess that was just me and some vocal idiots.
I usually read reviews before I decide if I want the game or not. The reviews from Nintendo Life are pretty good, they're really in-depth and I know it's not coming from a Nintendo hater.
The score is one of the things I take into consideration. At the very least, it makes me check more sources and carefully read the reasons for the low scores. It also tends to make me wait for a lower price if I'm still interested after reading everything.
The reviews I look at the most are those of Nintendo Life and Nintendo power. I will not bu a game only if the review states the game is bad because of the actual content, not because of silly things like permanent save data or unused disk space. I'm looking at you, Super Mario all Stars for Wii review!
If it involves the 3DS, I judge the game base on the amount of satisfied costumers at the user ratings, screenshots, and trailers from the Nintendo eShop.
No more unnecessarily low 3DS ratings from journalist.

Basically this. Nintendo Power is usually pretty spot on. The only time I remember completely misleading me was the infamous Nights Wii review me and my friends know about. The game got a 9/10 in NP, my friend got it for me for my bday, and it sucked. I mean, it was REALLY BAD. That was a freak incident though and it is the only time I recall them ever being totally off the mark. I usually think anything 7 or above is probably going to make me buy it if I am interested. I will usually buy games that are rated highly, such as 9 or above, but if a game looks cool and is a 7 I will probably buy it anyway. I don't really like IGN's scores in general, they seem overly critical most of the time. One of the reasons I don't like IGN.
