Topic: Does 3DS VC even stand a chance of being worthwhile?

Oh yeah, it'll be worthwhile. This both my opinion and the opinion of everyone whose Gameboy collection somehow disappeared and vanished over time. And considering (as has been mentioned several pages earlier) that people have been clamouring for a VC service on the DSi since it was released, very few Nintendo fans are allowed to have a legitimate complaint about the service when it is finally released.

I just hope they put some effort into it instead of releasing one game a month. The Wii's VC is slowing down to a crawl. What If three years after the GB VC starts they suddenly don't care anymore and barely add any games? Sure we'll have maybe close to 25 good games and then people will get tired of waiting for something worth downloading. Then it's back to emulation.

It'll be at least as worthwhile as the VC is on the Wii. Because while the 3DS is pretty much a portable Wii with 3D graphics, they're looking into changing their licensing to allow transfers. Which means when the next generation of Nintendo handheld comes along there's a good chance that not only will you be able to shift over your GB and GBC purchases, but then they'll have all the DS titles to add, too. (And GBA, if they don't add that before the 3DS becomes obsolete years from now...)

Sadly, I do expect the games to come at the same rate that they did on the Wii, though.

After 3 years you really expect Nintendo would be able to release 1 game every week still? they can't force 3rd parties and license holders to do so for a start, wii VC has already built up a huge catalogue of great titles, you don't need to buy on the day of their release they aren't perishable, I don't understand the argument that they simply must release a VC game every week, even seen people saying they wouldn't mind if it was a piece of shovelware as long as its VC, I guess having shovelware you wouldn't buy anyway is ok if its VC and not wiiware somehow, makes no sense to me but this how I read it sometimes.

This and I noticed that a lot of gamers are being quite ungrateful about the VC service. Let me give an example:

"Yay! Earthbound is on VC!!" (1 day later) "Where the crap is Yoshi's Island?"

It's an endless cycle of mindless bickering of fanboys that will never be pleased.

Everybody won't be happy until every game they want is on the service. Personally, that's why I just keep my expectations low and play other games until the ones I want are out, but then some people like to fixate.

To be honest, I consider the Virtual Console service more of a bonus than a necessity. I don't want to buy a new system just to play old games I beat in the past.

That's how I viewed it, until those old games became the only things worth buying. Hopefully things won't turn out as bad on the 3DS.

I don't think it will. Remember Nintendo is a behemoth in the handheld market. With the exception of the Virtual Boy, I don't think there's a handheld that wasn't any less than excellent

I don't doubt it either, just saying, I'm hoping the worst don't happen.

@Iz.... what part, I wasnt trying to be all factual to the date, but the Four Swords did originate on the Gamecube and it was very expensive to play. I also own the game on GBA. Whats the foul?

The only thing I think 3DS is going to prob bring a lot of negativity to Nintendo fans is going to be the price as Im sure we are looking at a $250-300 handheld wich is going to push a lot of gamers into not having it if that in fact does happen. The system and its game lineup is already looking to be a massive success at launch and the Third Party Support is already shaping up to be great as well.

@ slapshot: Nope, the GBA version came out like 2 years before the Cube one...

No and no. What is going on the 3DS virtual console is still going to be restricted by licensing and ownership. Rare games will never be on the console, baring some kind of miracle business partnership between Microsoft and Nintendo.

It's not impossible for rare to release games on nintendo consoles, though it is extremely uncommon. Rare made Diddy kong racing DS, for example

It's expensive if your friends don't have a Game Boy Advance and refused to buy their own link cables, and when I was growing up, the notion was "what kind of friend is that?" At the end of the day, it cost less that it did to play the GBA Four Swords, since then not everybody had to buy their own $30 GBA cart.

That's because Rare didn't own Diddy Kong Racing. Waltz meant that we'll never see Rare-owned games (like Banjo-Kazooie) on Nintendo consoles.

Huh, I seriously didnt know that, though I invested in the Gamecube very late in its cycle I did have a GBA but I was playing Playstation like crazy then. I dont know how I missed that one as I bought the Mario RPGs at launch as well as Drilldozer and tons of the greatness that is GBA. Heck I had like 3 different GBAs at one time. I still love that handheld to death.

Yeah, this.

Microsoft owns the rights to Banjo Kazooie, and Activision owns the Bond rights. Therefore no Banjo Kazooie or N64 Goldeneye games on Virtual console.

LzWinky

Nope, but we do see a GoldenEye remake...so there's really no point to the VC release now
