It's actually more of a handheld Gamecube. But, to answer the question, yeah I think it's powerful enough. Hardware wise (we're not talking software, mind you), though, the Vita blow the 3DS out of the water, IMO.

Monster hunter 3 ultimate and resident evil revelations couldn't run on gamecube without reduced graphics
If you troll and bash a system you claim you don't want then why are you paying attention to it?
To my understanding, the 3DS is more powerful, but has slightly worse graphics than the Wii does. However, I think the 3D effect more than makes up for it, plus it's a portable system, so I'm fine with how it is.

Why not? I've seen Gamecube games that look as good as it. It might be slightly more powerful than the 'Cube, but for all intents and purposes, is very likely much closer to the GC.

It's been proven that the 3ds can do advanced shaders that the wii and gamecube cannot. Monster hunter 3 ultimate looks better than mh tri and resident evil revelations looks better than resident evil 4
keep in mind 3ds has a dual core processor and once games start to get demanding and start using the dual cores(re revelations did not push the 3ds, capcom confirmed it) then we will see

Some aspects of the 3DS are pretty advanced (the shaers, as you mentioned), so some games are going to look quite good. Just, overall, I'd say it's closer to a GC than a Wii. But since I don't think either of us have degrees in this sort of thing, unless somebody who does is willing to do a comparison between the two, we're just going to have to wait until the end of the 3DS life span and compare the graphics of the games.
Sure it's graphics are obviously lacking compared to the vita but I think the 3ds has more than enough graphical power to stand its ground. And clearly I'm correct since its beating the snot out of the much more powerful vita. Fun fact: I recently got a vita and while there are some things to enjoy on it, it's very clear why it's losing so badly to the 3ds in terms of sales.
Let me know which game looks as good as Mario Galaxy, because I am interested in playing it. And as someone else mentioned, Mario Kart on the Wii looks better than the 3DS game (verified by comparisons online, google it).

Resident evil revelations is a good example. Also Super street fighter 4. I can say that mk7 looks better than mario kart wii. But I think that is more of an opinion

Good enough for me....I wasn't expecting PS3 graphics or whatever here anyways. I know how Nintendo works, they sacrifice graphics for gameplay and other weird things they come up with. (motion controls, dual screens, etc, lol)
