Topic: Do they really expect to sell games?

Most (not all) current 3DS games are between very bad and extremely bad. Last one I did check is the even worse Pac Man & Galaga Dimensions which will be released in Europe by early september, but all of them are between 37€ and 47€. Do they really expect to sell any? Is there any rule that doesnt allow them to lower the prices to better match the quality of the products?

If that was a law, the world would be a much, much better place. Unfortunately, it's not because the way many companies make money is by selling junk for 60 bucks.

Usually if you read up on the games you want it stops you getting the bad ones, the turkeys etc...
Out of the half dozen 3DS games I have there is only a couple I dont really play and a couple of the ones I have I had found to be great value for money like Samurai Warriors, plenty of content and some great DLC.
But there are some real turkeys as well... im looking at you UBIsoft but thankfully shops are getting wise to these and are selling them for about £16 / 18€
I think the good 3DS games are worth paying more than the standard handheld rate but not as much as a home console game and lately stores seem to be following suit with new releases coming out just under £30 instead of the £40 price point the launch titles came out at.

The thing is, you need to wait for low prices for junk.

i totally agree.
i got this nice device in my hands. with no title exclusive for it to play with.
so i play regular ds games or eshop ones... whevener someone ask me if the 3d looks nice in games, all i have to show them is...excite bike ? or even e3 trailers.
what a load of junk. all i had was street fighter 4, and i traded it 2 weeks after. the game was awesome, too bad it had little content, or game modes to keep it good for a long term game.
real games are coming late this year, and most are nintendo branded.
be patient, and ignore whats on shelves right now

just dont buy on day one, wait for reviews and gamers experience.

35 characters is little content these days? Thats news to me.

@bass agreed and did he even play online a ton? also theres like 200 icons or so to unlock and achievments

There is one - it's called the free market!

If people won't pay the asking price, it will have to be lowered until it's at a price people think it is worth.

@Bass_XO & @Otaku - Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Not everyone calls unlocking icons and acheivements for a game "fun," and some people (like me) aren't big on online play, especially SSFIV's..

Back then Game Boy games were around $30. Now they're $4 on the eShop

i didnt complete all the move list, cause some of them are a bit too crazy to complete. really.

otaku: 35 characters is a lot, yeah. thats content. but most of them are almost copy/paste with a different look. lets try this guy. oh yeah, its the same as Ryu... lets try this guy then. oh yeah, the same as Ryu... again
the online mode didnt do it for me much. i endend up meeting so much spammers that it killed the fun. (sonic boomboomboomboomboom...?%#$%@)
those icons are unlockable yes. but...what are they really doing anyway. theyre... icons ? what's the point of unlocking useless things ? i cant take this as a serious content feature.

so yeah, there is content, but it feels its more of the same. make a bunch of things, and double the content by copy/pasting it and changing the graphic. big deal. it gets old fast.
instead of taking the time to copy paste things, they should have taken the time to add at least one game mode to play with. arcade mode gets old fast and nothing changed there since the first street fighter on SNES. survival is the same as it ever was.
i just didnt feel much change or innovation since the franchise's debut.
Mind that I really enjoyed it for these 2 weeks ! but its not a game I feel it was worthy of its name. a good gaming experience that got old... at least, i got a bit more than half the price i paid for when exchanging it. it made it a 25$ game that was worth its 25$
at 25$ for a price point, i would have kept it.

oh yeah. the trophy/streetpass feature was great. this is what i call content. too bad the streetpass feature itself isnt something super common, even when i walk around Montreal.

lol yeah, but back then, gameboy games was the standard. it was the new thing, just like now 3ds is the new thing.

Now they are more worth this price

Well, certainly all of you thinking that SFIV (or any similar game) has any content and is worth the money will be quite happy paying 40€ or more for anything 3DS/DS already has of will have in any future. But then Nintendo should sell Mario Karts 3D for 300€ or more to be fair.

This topic is fairly redundant. Go on any online games merchant and you'll see that prices are adjusted according to there worth e.g a game like Puzzle Bobble is about £10, Ridge Racer £20 and Zelda £30. Sure, games normally get released at the same price, but once they have been subjected to the free market for a few weeks they will find there price point. Expect the same with Pac Man & Galaga Dimensions.

With the rise of mobile gaming on smartphones providing fun experiences for fractions of the cost of traditional games such as Mario Kart or SSFIV, many of us are having a hard time justifying purchasing expensive video game consoles and expensive video games to play on those devices when there are cheaper alternatives available on devices that do much more than just play games. Mandoble, if you're not satisfied with the price and quality of gaming on a traditional console, just sell your 3DS and be done with it. It's really that simple.

Wheels2050 and billy-beauts have a point, the free market should allow the prices to lower. You don't want a game for a certain price? Wait until the price lowers. That's what I always do, and I'm rarely disappointed with the content of my games.

Yes, Link's Awakening is still worth $30.
