Topic: Did the DS won the handheld console war?

Now when 3DS is coming out with its game that is only working on 3DS, does it mean that the original DS won the handheld console war in the 7th generation? and 3DS is going to start the 8th generation?

According wikipedia Nintendo DS sold 128.89 million units while the PSP just sold 66.7 units.

Well, yes. Unless Sony can create a miracle, it's pretty clear that DS beat PSP this generation. We're more than 5 years into each handheld's lifetime and DS is far ahead.

PSP didn't stand a chance. The DS was better in every way except graphics, but everyone knows that better graphics doesn't necessarily mean a better console.

the only way the DS could possibly have lost it would be if Shiggy and Iwata had drowned in all the money it printed.

The big question is now if kinnect are supose to add more years to the Xbox 360, and Nintendo 3DS is going to start the 8th generation (when it's going to be released before March 2011), so it will not take much longer before there are coming new systems and after this fall if Wii another time sold more systems it should be clear without any doubt that the Wii won the console war over Xbox 360 and PS3, when you look at how much the Wii is ahead at the sales and as Reggie said at the E3 conference this year, there are no system that has sold more than Wii in the same launch period ever, for me it's gonna be clear that the Wii already won the console war if they are going to sell more systems than 360 and PS3 this Christmas.

The only Flaw in the wii winning the console wars is that nintendo will have to either put out an HD system or start the next gen of consoles.

The 360 and PS3 has the tech to last them the next 5 or six years without starting a new gen as sony and MSFT have stated many times. The wii already didn't have third party support to begin with because of the outdated tech so it will force nintendo to have to upgrade making them even more obsolete.

But that doesn't matter because nintendo has the apple effect and what ever they make will sell period.

It beat the heck out of the handheld war, but I'm not sure about it against all the other home consoles.

@irken It's not really competing against the home consoles, although the DS is on the verge of becoming the best selling console or handheld ever, so it could still sell better anyway.

The Wii has sold more than the PS3 and the 360 combined! At least last time I checked.

True, When I read the title I thought of the "console war" as if it included handhelds and home consoles.

Still from a gamer's perspective nintendo has been poor this gen. I mean most people i know who bought a wii (me included ) are the apple crowd who bought it be cool and only has a few james for it.

I'm not in the Apple crowd, I bought the Wii cause it has Brawl, and I loved the original.

Xbox mini was the bestest handheld ever, it has blood in it cause it has Halo, Halo was the best handheld I ever played, sad it was never made, DS flopped cause people don't like Mario, they like master chief better(they ie everybody) so more people like Xbox mini, just because it wasn't made doesn't stop it being everybodies favourite including mine, there I have scientypically proven which handheld is best, so now you know

I was just going to say this, actually.

From my point of view the moment DS lite came out PSP was doomed and the moment PSP Go came out Sony destroyed all hope for the handhelds future. So yeah Nintendo is still undefeated.

And then there are people who say Apple is going to kill Nintendo off in the handheld war.
