@arronishere: Of course you wouldn't because we don't even know what the game is about in the first place.
Can't say much about the game because I don't know if it'll play a lot like Professor Layton but its good to see Nintendo taking risks even riskier than now. Just shows that Nintendo will try out anything.
[rhetorical question] Then what's the point of having a trailer to show the game if doesn't show the game then?
Um....for hype reasons? That's what certain games like Blood Stained and Monster Boy did? No sense of gameplay but just slapped images ( or in Bloodstained's case, concept art) instead.
@arronishere: Either way, rhetorical question or not, you can't defend the fact that Bloodstained simply showed concept art of the game and not how the actual game looks like. There's no footage of the game but instead we get Igarashi-San simply doing some acting and that's that. It had nothing to do with how the game plays and not much was revealed.
The same goes for this game as well. Sure, the game is releasing next month but keep in mind, its so far only releasing in Japan. It could possibly be a region exclusive game if it doesn't do well.
At this point, you might think that I'm defending Nintendo here and yes, I'm defending them for good reasons. Nearly everyone complains that Nintendo games are just the same old same old and this game does something different for the Pokemon series. It may not turn out well but you can't deny that unlike SEGA who simply has no idea what to do with Sonic, atleast they try new things in a safer approach.
what is this, why is this, who is this, where is this, how is this..
I just don't get the concept, it's detective pikachu yes, but what exactly is the game itself.. just a novel? I feel like this game's plot would be insanely cheesy cause 1 pikachu 2 pikachu and 3 the theme itself.. but we'll have to see.
The artstyle is strange, creepy but strange. Graphics look good (if that's not the boy's model..) but the visuals are good.
I think this game will just be one of those "best left for the memes and gifs" games. We already have super sayian pikachus out of this.

It would be sexier if the English voice actor for Detective Pikachu is Danny DeVito.
I can't wait for it to happen.
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
It's not exactly the game on everyone's lips at the moment, but I've just managed to finish Detective Pikachu after getting a Japanese 3DS relatively cheap from eBay. I'm probably among the slowest people to have worked through it, having been determined to go through nearly every line of text the game has to offer (a lot of which is optional), as well as making an effort to transcribe nearly every word I didn't know (which was also... quite a lot), BUT, I feel I've finished the game with a pretty solid comprehension, largely because of that.
My thoughts generally align with Joe Merrick's in his 'Hands On' article, but I personally didn't feel it was too short (probably because of the above reasons). I think if you wanted to fly through the game in the most direct manner possible, you could cut the time down a lot (and no doubt being fully literate would help - an awful lot), but there are lots of nooks and crannies to explore if you want to.
Overall, I think it's a really bold, and very well realised entry into the Pokemon universe, which is excellently animated, scripted and voiced. The themes that the story alludes to and draws from are surprisingly broad, allowing for situations that are genuinely intriguing and even nerve-wracking at times. There's a sense of real danger and mystery that develops, and things certainly become more meaningful and deeply motivated than the 'Aipom steals a necklace' scenario that everyone is likely familiar with.
After plenty of spin-offs where the Pokemon brand has been used as little more than an 'aesthetic' (Pokemon Picross, Shuffle etc), it's really nice to play through something with so much character and soul injected into it. I think it'll still split opinion somewhat, and the quality of the game in the West will largely depend on what voice actors get used, but I really believe there's a lot to commend the game for.
If anyone's got any questions, I'll be happy to answer them.
@darkfenrir It's hard to give an accurate answer, as I played the game in Japanese (the only available language at the time), and I am far from fluent (and was even less so when played it). My experience was artificially elongated by all the time I spent plugging things into a dictionary, so I might be prone to overstating its length.
I also made a point of talking to every character and inspecting every object I saw, most of which were unnecessary, so the player's mileage may hugely vary depending on how much poking around the world they do.
That said, I would roughly estimate the playtime for a native speaker at 5-10 hours. Despite the fact it's episodic (and only the first episode has been released so far), I still feel it squeezed a good amount of people, places, and narrative into the story.
Having watched the trailer, there were a few snippets I didn't recognise. Not many but a few. Also, it's getting a retail release, which the first episode of original Japanese game wouldn't warrant alone.
This makes my think that the other episodes will be included on the cart, and thus the game will be a fair bit longer. Meaning you can probably throw my earlier estimation of playtime in the bin.
Sorry to not be of much use, but it's exciting that the game is still coming!
