If it comes in November, there will be brawls of single parents, Otaku, Casual Gamers, grandma's buying for christmas, and....OMG...Nintendo is making a real life smash brothers with the release of this system. I am going to be the Otaku with the final smash of "eye gouge" since if they only have one eye, they can't see the 3D and I can go ahead in the line/mob.

That's why i pre-order my stuff. I went with my cousin to get the wii on launch day and we walked in and walked out.

Also, needs to be priced closer to iPhone or iPod Touch, in my opinion. Think it comes out at $199. And probably launches in spring 2011, likely in March -)To me the PSPgo was a bad idea to start with cause it didnt do much. If people could pay big bicks for a iPod Touch after buyin different iPhone the price on a 3DS is not a big deal bein you are gettin more then all put together. Dont think nintendo would do a such thing but it is what it is, people will still buy it because the 3DS is the next big thing.

Needs to be priced closer to the iPhone? The 32GB iPhone costs $300 with a 2 year contract, and either $500 or $600 with no contract.
While I don't think it will cost nearly that much, I would be willing to pay up to $349.99 for it. My guess is that it will indeed be priced in the $249-$299 range.

I'm sure will not be that cheap since it's somewhat recent technology.

Stereoscopy was invented in 1838. Not really that recent.
I mean the 3DS just has tilted pixels and projects 2 different images onto them, that's not really that impressive technology-wise so I think the 3D isn't the expensive part. Even the little 3D picture cards that sometimes come with the cornflakes can do that.
I still think it's gonna be around $200.

And besides the PSP had almost the graphics the 3DS has now 6 years ago and it still only costed $250 but just because it was only available as Value Pack with a whole bunch of accessories.
So I don't think there's any reason why the 3DS could/should cost more than $200.

I know 3D has been available for a long time, I know some of my history. I was talking about 3D with no glasses, which I think has been around for only a few years now. When new technology is invented, it usually is really expensive until they find other better and cheaper ways to make it. Plus, the 3DS also has a 3D camera, which I don’t think is cheap to implement either.

nintendo's strategy has always been to produce simple products that are cheap enough for consumers to buy easily, espoused best by the game boy and the wii which both wildly succeeded against competition that was much more advanced (and expensive).

if 3D technology were costly enough to produce that it would lead to a much more expensive unit for the consumer i don't think they would have offered it yet. the fact that they are suggests that they can keep the costs from going much higher than the current DS models, so i think $250 is the most we'll see. even $200, though reasonable, is as much as their home console, so i doubt they'll push much higher than that. (i'd still buy it for $300 :( )

and as far as a release date goes, if they're not offering this by christmas, what will they offer? donkey kong's great and all, but it's not the type of console mover nsmbw was. i don't think nintendo is going to leave their holiday schedule as blank as it will be if both zelda and the 3DS are held off to next year.

BusinessWeek claims that Iwata stated, in an interview, that the system would be on sale by March. I believe it's clear that they'll be missing the holiday season, unfortunately. He didn't even say it would be on sale in the US by March, by the way, so it could launch even later here.

Yea Iwata stated it would be on sale by march, and that could also mean it is released before march cause it is on sale in march too then :P March just means the end of Q1 and Ninty already stated it woul be out by the end of Q1. This reveals nothing :P

Stereoscopy, which was invented in 1838 is 3D without glasses. It is exactly the method the 3DS uses.
And the "3D camera" are actually just two cameras next to each other, because that's how stereoscopy works so it will only be double as expensive as the one outside camera the DSi had and believe me, "double as expensive" might sound bad but those are 0.3 MP cameras they're very cheap nowadays.

Listen up. Nintendo isn't stupid, they've got everybody on their toes with the 3DS. They are not going to ruin it by marking up the system to some ridiculous price. The way I see it the max. Nintendo is going to market the 3DS for at launch will be $200. This would also just be assuring them the winners of the handheld market.

The 3DS costs the same as a DSi XL did when it first came out here where I live. How do I know that? Because it says you can order it for that amount of price on a website. The price is about 385 $ here, but everything is expensive in Norway!

i dont beleive that. we're talking a new handheld here! 3D,analog,exclusive games, etc. i think it would cost more than something with just bigger screens

I doubt they would make it 200$ I don't see why they would make their handheld more expensive than then there home console, maybe 150$ at most, I mean the DS launched at 130$ right so I wouldn't be surprised, I personally find 200$ too much for a handheld console.

iwata: "I have to refrain from talking specifically about the price point. What I can confirm is that, in terms of the production costs, it will cost more than the costs for the Nintendo DS today. Having said that, we believe we will produce enough value worthy of the production cost. We do not think we have to sell the products below cost."

so you can expect it to be more expensive than the DS, but i think most people were already planning on that. it still probably won't be that much more

Is he talking about the standard DS or the DSi? If he's talking about the DSi then the 3DS will be around $250 I assume.

Maybe Gamestop will allow you to trade your DSi in for the 3DS, plus some extra moolah, most likely.

No the way I bought my DSi was by trading in my lite and that only got me $70! When you add tax it makes in $110.00! So I don't think you could trade in your DSi and still have extra money from the trade in.

If it was going to be released before X-mas, we would know already. That's not going to happen.

I think it'll be priced somewhere between $200-$250. It's still a huge chunk of change. The 8G iTouch is $200 retail, so unless they have different models with different sized hard drives or something, I doubt they'd include more than 8G of memory on their machine. The itouch does everything the 3DS will do, except buttons and 3D (which isn't new tech in Japan, these screens have been used on cell phones for years). I personally don't think they can justify more than $200 unless they add a lot of functionality non-gaming wise as well. That being said, Nintendo products are overpriced nowadays, because their brands are so hot. I predict $200-$250 (nobody will spend more than $250 on a 3DS for their kids, and many won't for themselves either, except the hardest of the core).

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.
