Topic: Convince me to buy a 3DS

Ok, after a good night's sleep I am back and ready to respond to your posts.

@Mao: Well, that would be the purchasing factor, but of course I wouldn't just own those games.
But yes, that's why I'm hesitant to lay money down at this time. But if I were to get a 3DS I'd definitely buy more than just those games.

@Reala: I don't want a Playstation Vita. I hardly use my PSP as it is, and to be honest, I don't see much difference. Not to mention, the price is too high. The reason I'm thinking about the 3DS is because it's almost the same price as a DSi, and I need to replace my DS anyway. I am typically a console gamer and don't like handhelds, so I don't like to spend more on a handheld than I do on a console. From what I understand, the Vita is somewhere around 200-250 dollars. That is not a reasonable price for me at all. And I'm not really interested at all the stuff Vita has to offer. I buy systems and consoles to play video games, and for no other reason. It's nice if a console has extra features, of course, but my main objective in buying a video game system is to play games. As of right now, I don't see anything on the Vita that looks impressive to me game-wise.

@Tokyored: I play games alone for the most part, so getting a game like Mario Kart is not a whole lot of fun for me...
I don't have a lot of friends here who like videogames, and even those that I do don't like to play multi-player games, so there's no point in my buying those types of games. Besides that, I already have Mario Kart 64 and the Wii version if I want my karting kick.

As for "mature games". I find someone who's manly enough to play a game like Kirby's Epic Yarn awfully mature. If you can be caught dead playing a game like that and still have your maturity intact, that means you're mature, at least in my book.
But in all honesty, you shouldn't have to have something define you as mature. Maturity lies in your attitude and how you perceive things, not in the kind of video games you play.

Of course, since I am a girl and out of my teens, I don't have to prove my manliness and I am not that sensitive about my maturity level, as guys seem to be. So I will gladly play games like Kirby's Epic Yarn or Princess Debut without fear of people thinking less of me.

@bonesy91: True, but I'm so cheap that I pretty much have to force myself to buy anything, and this is no different. >_<
I actually had to have my PARENTS talk me into buying a PS3, despite the fact that I already had a game for it and had been wanting it for a while.

If you're a fan of RPGs and such, then I wouldn't get one yet.

I'm a RPG fan if that helps put it in context.

@Feder: Truthfully, you should probably wait a year until Kid Icarus comes out and then just go buy it. In addition, the 3DS might be much cheaper and then you can go get Tales Of the Abyss for the 3DS anytime.

Kid Icarus is going to be a disappointing game for a lot of people. I felt it was terrible when I played the preview build, and the recent video hasn't done anything to change that impression.

Yea but that's a preview build. Don't judge a book by it's cover until you actually read the book. Or Don't judge a book while it's still bein written.

@WaltzElf: Feder stated he/she wants Kid Icarus 3DS, Tales of the Abyss, and OOT, so the main point of this topic is helping him/her decide if they should get one. This has nothing nothing to due with yours or anybody's opinions on the games.

@Feder: I would say go with what Mao said up there, it seemed the most reasonable thing to do.

What makes the Vita better than the 3DS? Its options? I don't really care about any of the options it has to offer. I'm a private gamer who mostly plays by myself or with a friend or two, so none of the Vita's options that I saw looked interesting to me. Plus, after looking at its list of games, I can say that I have no interest in getting one, especially after looking at its price tag. The only game that even looks slightly appealing to me is vanillware's Dragon Crown, and since I have a PS3 I can just play it on that. All the rest on the wiki list are games I have no interest in or are on other systems I own already.

Kid Icarus fans are definitely going to be disappointed. I haven't played it, but what I've seen doesn't resemble the previous two games at all.

@feder: Since you said you need to replace your DS, buying a 3DS now makes sense. It sounds like none of the games out now really interest you, but you could still play your DS games until there's something else you want.

3DS is actually great, sure it doesnt have a ton of games ATM, but I have 3 3DS games and love all of them, PWR, SSF4, DOA (especially DoA) and sure it does have its flaws but its great and trust me GAMES WILL COME

I dunno, Kid Icarus could be awesome just by comparison. Because when I think of revivals of a series we thought was dead, I think Duke Nuke Forever and Nights Wii.

Seriously though, I'm expecting something really good (it's Sakurai after all) and even at worst, it will look like a masterpiece compared to Nights Wii and Duke Nukem Forever.

I got mine at release..happy with it..I don't think it matter if you buy one so I won't try and convince you...do some research...read reviews...why come to a forum and ask random people to convince you to buy something?

effort is overrated

I decided to ask the good people of nintendolife because I HAVE read up on the system (or I did when it first came out), but I wanted to hear what people who actually HAVE the system think of it. I didn't want to go and read reviews and whatnot because I feel they are biased against Nintendo, or at least they seem that way on most sites. And I didn't bother asking at one of my other forums because they're all Sony/MS/PC hardcores who would just tell me to get a Vita because it's SO much better than a 3DS.

If you're not going to try to help me out, fine, but why bother even posting then? And I've been here since October of 2010, so I didn't exactly come here just to post this. I came here because I trust Nintendo fans about Nintendo consoles more than I do anyone else and I wanted to hear what you guys had to say. That's all.

I'm not gonna try to convince you. I'll just say that I'm happy with my system, especially after the news of the 20 free games I'm getting.

If you are buying one though. The best moment would probably be the beginning of 2012. Then you have OOT3D, Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 to play and great games like Luigi's Mansion 2, Kid Icarus (in EU) and Paper Mario upcoming.
