Hey everybody,

I am interested in getting a 3DS XL over the original model I have and was curious if I could link my club Nintendo account to the new XL model even if it's used. I also am not sure what happens to the link from my original 3DS.

I want to buy a new XL, but I just found a guy is trading his XL for a regular 3DS and I am interested in doing the trade, but don't want to not get credit for my eshop purchases on club Nintendo. Any help would be great. I also would like to know a general time range for a data transfer, because I would like to transfer as we trade so that I bring my games (and Ambassador status) with me. But it says on the official Nintendo site that it can take up to 40 mins. Is this the common case or the extreme case?

All I can say is that you would need to do a whole transfer, unlink your club nintendo account and link it to the new model, it is not something you can go up to buddy and buy then walk away (only if you want all of your stuff)

I believe you can link your CN account to a used 3DSXL the only thing is you probably wont get coins for it unless the person never registered it. As for how long the transfer takes it depends on a number of factors mainly how much data you are transferring and the internet connection (if it uses internet I dont remember at this point) Anyway I would plan for it to take up to an hour just in case. You might be surprised and it only takes 10 mins, but to be on the safe side I would set aside an hour.

Oh okay. I figured I probably wouldn't get coins for the actual system, but I wasn't sure if the fact that it's a system I don't/can't register on CN that it also would restrict me from gaining coins from my downloadable purchases.

So would I unlink my CN account before transferring or would I transfer and then unlink from my old 3DS if it hasn't already?

Thanks for the info on transfer time.

Don't check me on this (as I have absolutely no way of knowing this), but I think it's possible to have multiple 3DSs linked to one CN account. Makes sense since CN accounts can be one for the whole family, but idk for sure.

Exactly.

it is possible. i have two of the original 3DSes registered and two of the XL's registered. I'm going to be registered a third XL because I need another 3DS for my daughter since she is addicted to the Moshi Monsters game. This way I can also get her the Nintendogs game too.

I'm okay with my old one still being registered, I just want to make sure I don't lose my Ambassador games. And I don't want the new owner's activity to reflect on my Club Nintendo.

when you transfer from one 3DS to another, the source system goes to factory settings so that means that your old one will no longer be linked to your CN account.
