I've never enjoyed GTA on a handheld. I think with an immersive, elongated experience like GTA playing on a TV is much more suitable. Maybe it would work on the 3DS, but after the commercial failure of Chinatown Wars on the DS I don't think Rockstar will be looking to do another one.
They made one for the DS (even though it didn't do so well), so I'd say better than average. Personally I'd prefer a new game rather just remaking an older title. Vice City for me if they do remake one of the games.
Like others have said, Chinatown Wars didn't sell very well, and I don't think Rockstar would want to take that risk again. However, they did port CW to the iDevices, so there's the possibility of them developing a GTA for the iDevices and then porting it to the 3DS, however bizarre that may sound. It's only a possibility; don't rule it out.
I'm not sure if it was just my imagination, but I swear last year that a GTA 3D trailer was shown at E3.... it would be pretty cool if one did hit the 3DS, but don't bet anything on it.
Like others have said, Chinatown Wars didn't sell very well
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure the game didn't sell well on the other platforms it was ported onto either, I think It was just a bad game all around. If they make more of a modern style GTA game on 3DS like they did on the PSP then I think it would sell a lot better, but the chances of that happening are pretty slim since I'm sure Rockstar would rather just make GTA on Vita.
sadly the saints row for 3ds has been cancelled. i would love to see some open world game like gta.
chinatown wars was my first ds game. it was really good but i never finished it. 3D GTAs are better though i love gta2 but i onoly for the rioting not the story
I think a 3D GTA in the style of their home console versions is entirely possible on the 3DS, wether I want it on the 3DS is whole different question... ...that is im implying I wouldnt. lol
Bully on the other hand I really enjoyed, although I dont expect a remake, but a new IP would be great.

chinatown wars is on my buy list for the next months. its featured in a lot of top ds games. i dont know where people got that is was poorly received, because reviews mostly say otherwise. maybe its because it was a top-down version like the old GTA were. i dont mind, i had a blast with GTA 1 and 2, maybe more than san andreas itself.
if a port was to be made, make it vice city. i liked the summer feeling of it. i just hope there will be cheats to complete those grinding missions like delivery, or fireman ones. i did them once in vice city, got sick of them in san andreas. i dont wanna live thru another delivery crap thing. innavation please. theyre fiun at first, but a real pain/chore to master and get the bonus out of it.
Personally I would love to see a remake of Vice CIty to me that has been the best in the series. I still have that game on PS2 and play it every now and again.

Well there was a GTA on GBA and a GTA on DS so I would say the possibility of GTA on 3DS isn't totally out of the question. I'm more concerned with whether or not Wii U will be getting a GTA.
I didn't like ChinaTown Wars lol I just don't like the top down ones.
Vice City was pretty awesom. But San Andreas, to most of my friends and me, was the best one in the series!
The girlfriends, airplanes, boats, Mt. Chiliad, the country, the rain in San Fierro, sandstorms in Las Venturas, jetpacks, etc.
I would spend most of my time fly the Jumbo Jet around the entire map instead of doing missons
Then, with the multiplayer, my brothers and I, would take road trips around the game, follow traffic rules, and try to be as realistic as possible.
When we got tired of that, we would start causing mayhem all over San Andreas > Driving a tiny fourwheeler, and being chased by tanks is so awesome 8)
My favourite part was when you rode a fourwheeler through the country, a plane my swoop down, hit you off of it, and crash!
Anyways, if they make one, they need to make a Grand Theft Auto: San Anreas Stories, like someone else said!
But this time, for the first time in gaming history, tell it from a girls point of view, and that girl should be CJ's girlfriend Denise, or Katie
I think Katie because she was my favourite on :XD: They should also let you go online to a free roam version of San Andreas, just like the PC version
You could form a gang, or join one, rob banks, own businesses, like VC stories, etc. Also, there could be these optins that were on the PC version:
Cops & Robbers (You are randomly picked to be a cop, or robber, an you have to rob banks, or stop robbers.)
Free Roam (You free roam around the city...Yah, that's pretty much it lol)
Stunt Man (You go to either one of the 4 airports, and peform various stunts to increase your time every round. There will be ramps, loop-tee-loops, and other things, randomly placed every round)
The Ghetto (This was one of my favourite modes! It's sort of mature. In this mode you got to choose a job as a:
-Medic
-Cop
-Raper
-Hooker
-Kidnapper
-Pimp
-Other things
-Or a normal person
Sometimes a raper woul "get" you, and you would get infected with an STD. Your health would go down slowly until you died. The more serious the disease, the faster you would dye. Like with AIDS you woul die within a day, unless you called the medic to heal you)
Here are more that should be added
Transporter (You drive a truck, airplane, train, etc. to a delivery spot. On the way you might get stopped by a gang and get jacked)
SimmerE15: you got it all in there ! there is somuch you can add in a GTA game, content-wise. not just some icon or medal collecting. some real in-game content or game modes. there is no doubt it can take vice city, or even some san andreas graphics. But i wonder if the 3DS could handle a big sandbox environement.
Um, it's the best-reviewed game on the DS ever, according to both Metacritic and Gamerankings.
I've got it at home and personally can't wait to get stuck into it when I've got some more time!
On topic, as others have mentioned Chinatown Wars sold very poorly. I don't think they would be jumping at the chance to release a game on the 3DS, but it may depend on what else is getting released. If other 'mature' games sell well, then Rockstar may be more inclined to have another go.
yeah, I think i saw an announcement here on nintendo life about it.
it might not actually count as a GTA, but it sure will show off how it can handle a sandbox world. and its a title i will watch closely, it could prove to be very fun even if it looks like... legos.
