I have zero interest in Lord of Shadow 2, but I'll hold off on disregarding Mirror of Fate until I can actually see it in motion and read in more specific detail about how it plays.
I can't say I'm terribly thrilled about Iga's apparent lack of involvement or the decision to go all-in with polygon-based characters and environments over primarily 2D designs, but those choices weren't totally unexpected. Whether or not I get Mirror of Fate will hinge entirely on how effectively Mercury Stream manages to capture the spirit of my beloved SotN-style Castlevanias, which, to their credit, they at least sound like they're trying to emulate.
I need my Metroidvania medicine.
It's actually more likely that this'll be a classic castlevania. Lord of Shadows was a strictly linear action game, after all.
From what I've read, my impression is that it'll end up being something of a hybrid between the three main styles (classic, SotN, Lords of Shadow).
- gameplay is reminiscent of Dawn of Sorrow and Order of Ecclesia
polygon-based graphics
primarily plays in 2D and 2.5D
occasional shift into a fully 3D environment
- Mirror of Fate encourages nonlinear exploration and discovery

“We felt that traditionally Castlevania games had done well on handheld, and indeed found a home there to a certain extent. The whole team really felt we could do something special and memorable on the format that would immerse players totally. The N3DS has allowed us to create something totally unique and exclusive to the format that we think players are going to absolutely love.” - Dave Cox, producer

I still don't trust Mercury Stream, but I have some wary optimism that there will be some Metroidvania in there.
Hiya. I haven't been around NL much lately, but I'm still here.
It's news like this that makes me wonder if I'm too much of a retro gamer to exist in today's gaming world. This is, apparently at some level, a 2D/2.5D Castlevania along the lines of what I love. Yet, I'm not the least bit excited, partly because I can't get past the fact that it's based on the Lords of Shadow "reboot". This news must mean that the Castlevania series I've known and loved, as it previously existed, is now dead and buried. 25 some odd years of video game history, flushed down the toilet for the sake of a God of War clone. If I wanted God of War, that's what I'd buy. Originally, Lords of Shadow wasn't even going to be a Castlevania game. Then, I guess they decided to slap the Castlevania name on it for a few extra sales, and call it a reboot, since they were too lazy or whatever to tie it in with the ongoing Castlevania story.
I'll have to wait and see how Mirror of Faith looks before I make a final decision. However, the classic gamer in me mourns for the death of the original Belmont family and, yes, Dracula. Hard to see Konami (which I hold in about the same lack of esteem as Capcom these days) returning to the original series now. Lords of Shadow (what I've played of it, anyway) just wasn't the same, and I doubt this will be either. Yes, Trevor and Simon are here. I doubt they'll be the same Belmont forefathers we're acquainted with, though. With Konami's desire to abandon the original series, I doubt we'll even hear "Simon's Theme", "Vampire Killer" or "Beginning" anywhere in the game (if ever again).
Regardless, I'm going to try REALLY, REALLY HARD to keep an open mind. News that it'll follow Lords of Shadow has lowered my expectations significantly, though.

Rest in peace. Part of the classic gamer in me has departed along with you.
Let's attack aggressively, kupo! :D

The entire ''Castlevania now sucks because it's like God of War'' is just a hilariously bad excuse. Many gaming franchises copy each other, like how Sonic copies Mario or Uncharted copies Tomb Raider. That of course doesn't mean they automatically suck.
I have yet to play Lords of Shadows, so I'm neutral about the sequel. If I ever get it, it'll probably be the Vita version. Mirror of Faith could be good or suck hard. I would have to see more of it before making a decision on whether I'll buy it or not.

I'm excited for Mirror of Fate personally. It's supposed to be Metroidvania style with occasional switches to 3D. What does everyone else think about the way Simon looks in the game?

More Castlevania is always a good thing to me, and even if LoS is a GoW clone I still enjoyed it minor glitches and button mashing aside. The fact that Mirrors of Fate will be another Metroidvania pleases me as I loved the Gba and DS releases. One thing that bugs me in a personal level though is that this game uses two subtitles which I find silly... Other than that though I'm excited to see more from this game come E3.
Here's a new trailer with some brief gameplay in it:
I'm probably going to remain on the fence about this one throughout the entirety of its development. A lot of the things I care about in Castlevania titles (or at least the ones I like) don't necessarily make for exciting trailer material.
The game is looking great so far, But the whipping mechanic is similar to LoS it seems(ie button mashing). Hope they do show more on the 3DS conference itself, more Metroidvanias are always welcome. Also happy to know that the rumors of Alucard=Trevor are pushed out the window.
