There was nothing wrong with Order of Ecclesia. Next to Dawn of Sorrow it's my favorite DS Castlevania. I thought Portrait of Ruin was the dissapointing one. Still good but my least favorite. If any game in the series went too far it was Lords of Shadow. That's not Castlevania. It's God of War in disguise.
@ Saber End the series? Are you insane? There's still plenty life left in Castlevania. No reason to retire the series all together. Why don't we just kill off Mario while we're at it? Hasn't that gone on long enough too? Sheesh.
Yes, if Konami ended it now it would have at least have a decent reputation. Yeah, Mario games maybe very similar to each other but at least their still good unlike Castlevania now (these game company's better come up with something new or will be playing the same game titles in 2020).
@ Saber I can see your point about Final Fantasy. Those games really are getting into burnt out territory. Seems like there's a new Game every six months. The plots and characters are getting really lame too. I'm not quite ready to give up on Castlevania though. They just need to add some freshness to it. Give us something new and exciting.

Bloodlines badly needs a re release on VC. Konami seems to have completely dropped VC support though. I can't even remember the last game they added. I'm still amazed we got Rondo of blood. Before the Wii dies I'd like to finally own Bloodlines. That's the only game in the series I never owned.

I think it would be great if more sidescrollers on the 3DS took a hint from the spectacular rollercoaster ride that Donkey Kong Country Returns is. In Castlevania's case Shantae (DSiWare) showed some interesting approaches too. I'd say if a new Castlevania game would breathe some of these games' spirit it could be absolutely amazing. Keep gameplay centered around the whip and magical attacks and you could have a real winner here.
Err, are we really asking for more 2D sidescrolling castlevanias in 2011?? What will be next? Please, and 256 colors only? Better 16 and lowering the resolution? Might be main reason Nintendo gets only the very worst from third parties is because Nintendo users will not accept anything better.
First Zeldas were 2D and now the 3D ones seem to be well accepted by the users, I dont understand why it would be different for Castlevania which has been 3D since the times of N64 for every console except DS due its obvious limitations.
But with Zelda, it originally was not a side-scroller. The basic game play is still the same with 3D graphics. With Castlevania the originals are all side-scrollers, therefore a different game in 3D. Not what most Castlevania fans wanted.
this is exactly the right answer to that question. I think Lords of Shadow went way too far with the battles and graphics for my taste. It felt a lot like Dante's Inferno or something like that. While I still probably prefer side-scrollers like Symphony of the Night, I actually liked Lament of Innocence for the PS2 as well. So if they pulled back the reins a little bit and did something like that on the 3DS I would be happy too.
