When you can buy a 4GB SD card for 2 dollars more than a 2GB one.

@YellowChocobo: I guarantee that if this game sells well then you will see more games priced at $50 regardless of their quality.

And the problem with that is?

I don't see any of the PS Vita's games including Uncharted and Little Big Planet being priced more than $39.99. Are you saying that those games are of lesser quality than Resident Evil Revelations?

You're right. They should be priced higher. I think you'll find that a game's price isn't set on its quality. It's set on, you know, how much it cost to make.

When you can buy a 4GB SD card for 2 dollars more than a 2GB one.

Because the only cost difference in developing a game for a 2GB card, compared to the 4GB card, is the cost of the memory chip.

I'm all for money gushing out of my a$$, too.

You're right. It's the developer's fault you can't afford a little bit more money for a game that cost a lot to make.

$50 dollars. Hm, that's new. Ah well, I'll still get it since it sounds like Capcom worked so hard.

Sorry we're not money-making gaming journalists Waltz? Gamers who buy games themselves (basically without parental help) usually try to be economically conscious. Raising prices is a bad economical decision no matter how good a game is. You can say that the best game ever would cost $1,000,000,000 but who's going to buy it at that price?

This is Capcom we're talking about, if we wait a little longer.
They will come out with "Super Resident Evil: Revelations" for $40 bucks
Gotta love milk'in that money

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

What gives you the impression that I earn much money?

I don't. I like ballet. I haven't been able to go to the ballet for a few years because ballet tickets cost $100 (for 2 hours entertainment!). I can't afford that.

I don't throw a tantrum and blame the Australian Ballet for "being too expensive" (really, without Government grants, they'd be bankrupt), because I can't afford it, though. What kind of ridiculous logic is that?

Oh right. Gamers.

You can say that the best game ever would cost $1,000,000,000 but who's going to buy it at that price?

The best cars cost $1 million. Not everyone can afford $1 million. I don't see people on car forums having a cry because they can't afford the latest Lamborghini. No. They settle for a Toyota.

To make this really plain for you: It ain't Capcom's fault if you can't afford Capcom's game. If you can't afford it, don't buy it. If enough people do that the price will drop next time anyway.

Oh, and if you people want to keep game prices down, stop buying them second hand. If you stop bitting the hand that's feeding you perhaps, just perhaps, you'll end up treated nicer.

Considering that I don't have a 3DS because of the inflated price at launch (Nintendo sure learned their lesson from that, eh?), I won't buy this anyway. I just think that raising prices on games isn't a good business practice for Capcom (who hasn't had a good track record recently). Sounds almost like how Nintendo is possibly going to sell the WiiU at a loss instead of a profit at launch.

I wish I got to live in a magical fairy land where you didn't think everything you spew was the Holy Word of God and us peasants whose every penny goes to pay for their education should just suck it up and pay $10 more than any handheld game has any right to be, so I guess that makes two of us, eh.

But whatever, I'm sure you'll have some witty reply to this too.

If it is a good quality game then I can see how the price might be justified but this will likely cause the price of all 3DS games to go up, even shovelware titles. The economy is really rough right now and Nintendo is having enough trouble moving 3DS software at their current prices. Selling 3DS games at $50 a pop certainly will not help the situation especially when the PS Vita games are still going to be $40. Nintendo needs to do all it can to compete with Sony. For a lot of people $40 for a handheld game is already pushing it. These days people would rather wait until a game goes on sale than paying full price.

Not going to buy it but I just wanted to say that games here in Finland cost more.
$50 is same as 37€, and I have to buy all my games for at least 40€ if I get them early on. That's why I wait for seeing the game I want somewhere for a lower price. I made little search and found out that Relevations costs 50€ here which is about $68.
Well, high prices haven't yet made me quit buying games and most times I'm still paying 20€-50€ for games, depending on how good they are.

It's its, not it's.

Irked, doing some simple math here, and making assumptions that the game cost $20 million to make, Capcom would need to sell roughly 160,000 less to break even if the game's price was $50 ($40 after the retailer got their bit, and pretending that there were no other costs involved for the sake of simplicity.

Given how relatively small the 3DS user base is, 160,000 extra units is a big ask, let alone make a profit on top of.

@Phoenix. I went through university too. I didn't buy a single game for 3 years, in fact. For a month straight I lived on chicken stock soup.

That doesn't make the fact I couldn't afford a game the developer, or publisher's fault. I just had to go without for a while. That's life.

Great, that means it'll be $100 here then.
Oh well, it's not like it won't get cheaper later anyways

So then why set the price higher? To make a bigger profit? If they sold it at the regular $40 price, they wouldn't lose the customers that object the $50 price for one. Two, I would assume that the 3DS will be a somewhat success during the holiday season now that Nintendo got their pricing right and there are more "quality" 3DS games being released. And take this example: I had two options for buying Zelda Skyward Sword- either the standard version or the wiimote bundle. I chose the standard version and paid full preorder price for it. Why? Because while throwing in a wiimote+ for an extra $20 sounds "fair," or "like a great bargain," I'd still be paying an extra $20 for it. $50 sound better than $70 to me. In this case with Capcom, they're inflating the price because of "waah we're good developers and deserve the extra cash" or "waahhh we need the money to cover cartridge space." If this inflation included the circle pad pro, it might sound more reasonable (considering that we don't know the exact US price of the device).

irken004 interesting tangent there that I see applicable to the phenomenon of Special Editions. Of course there is a big effort to justify the additional investment with a statue or 'extra' content that should have been included, but I like your by the numbers economic viewpoint. The aftermath of such a purchase is a game selling at an elevated price, netting massive profit margins and setting an impossible precedent for smaller development studios.

In other words, a consumer who believes price dictates quality will be less willing to purchase more affordable 'budget' titles for fear of receiving less content. Not profound, but value is rooted in consumer expectation and to tolerate a price hike is to establish a new precedent that publishers will certainly exploit.

This might be news to you waltz but most of us here are gamers.
And believe it or not, we like to save money by buying games at a reasonal price that we feel comfortable with.
We want "more bang for our buck" to put into terms, and what Capcom is asking from us is insulting.
$50 for a 20 hour game? That doesn't sound like a great deal, now does it?
I'm not a bad guy for wanting a quality game for a low price nor does it make me right. I'm just customers who doesn't want to buy a overprice products for handheld console.
No self-respecting person will tolerate this absurd pricing, how foolish do you think we are?

here's the thing Mr. Journalist. People whining on the internet is lame. Those entitlement losers annoy me to no end. That being said, as a consumer, I don't really have much sympathy for increasing the price for a guaranteed sales success. Especially from a company that's become a hilarious parody of itself in terms of greediness in record time. I mean, this is one of those times I get why Capcom's doing this. But it's getting to the point of just being a running gag. And if there was a chance I was interested in this game (at least at full price) anymore, that kinda dissappeared (although the delays of games that were supposed to be released this year makes that extremely unlikely regardless). I'm not gonna whine on the internet or do some boycott (regardless of what I said in an admittedly somewhat childish rant a couple of months ago). I'm...just gonna buy different games. They'll be fun. I'll finally get an MGS game and a Shinobi game too! Especially since less Capcom games are being released than expected. Heck, I missed plenty of games this gen, if NOA is dumb enough to not release certain Wii RPGs, I can get more of those. See, it's variety. If companies cancel games I want, that leaves room for games I might have missed instead. So I'll buy those instead. That's...kinda it.

so basically people, don't whine about it. Just buy a different game instead if "u mad". We have that option as 3DS games are finally being released. It's cool.
